Some further context provided by LS IT:

“These attacks are particularly concerning because they do not rely on someone downloading an obviously suspicious attachment or program. Instead, they convince the person at the computer to run a command that installs malicious software. We’re sharing this update because this activity is increasing, and the attackers are changing the websites and products they impersonate.

In multiple recent incidents, employees searched the web for common tools like LinkedIn and ChatGPT then reached a malicious website impersonating those legitimate companies. The sites instructed the users to perform steps on their computer that ultimately ran a malicious command. Within seconds, attackers were able to install remote-access software on the computers.

Similar attacks may impersonate other familiar websites, applications, or services. The instructions may be presented as a security check, CAPTCHA, verification step, software fix, or other routine-looking task.” Security notice from the Letters and Science IT Services Unit reposted to the Yellow Cluster instagram accounts through text on blank off-white slides. Above, blue text reads: "Security Notice: As of Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 2PM from the Letters and Science IT Services Unit" Below, text reads: "We are seeing a significant increase in attacks that use fake websites and convincing on-screen instructions to trick people into compromising their computers. We have now confirmed multiple successful attacks of this type within our college, including several recent cases. Here's how to spot and avoid them:" by @ucdpsych

The Lesh Lab (PI: Tyler Lesh, PH.D.) and TCAN Lab (PI: Cameron Carter, M.D.) are currently looking for volunteers for current projects evaluating the impact of cannabis, metabolism, immune factors, and dopamine signaling on individuals with psychotic disorders. New studies also focus on co-occuring autism spectrum and psychotic disorders as well as the how neuroinflammation may mediate the relationship between sleep disruptions and symptom emergence in adolescence.

Our NIH-funded studies implement clinical interviews, questionnaires, computer tasks, and MRI scans to examine the relationships between symptoms, cognition, and brain activity in psychosis. Volunteers can gain experience with a psychiatric population, shadow clinical appointments, be safety monitor trained for MRI scans, and assist with data entry, administrative tasks, data auditing, and subject recruitment. Although not required, motivated volunteers frequently complete an independent project and present at the annual UCD Undergraduate Research Conference.

For volunteers with programming experience or an interest in learning more about neuroanatomy, we offer experiences learning how to examine and analyze structural MRI scans.

Prerequisites: Applicants with previous research or clinical experience will be strongly considered, but no prior experience is required.

Additional comments: We require a minimum of 8 hours per week with a one-year commitment, although scheduling hours is flexible. There is a free shuttle between the Davis campus and the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where our lab is located. Applicants should send a cover letter and CV, including college GPA, and contact information for 2 references to adanila@ucdavis.edu.
