It’s Global Entrepreneurship Week! ⭐️

We spent the day with UCL-supported startup eNOugh to find out what being an entrepreneur at UCL is like.

The startup, founded by UCL alumni Ina Jovicic (MSc Entrepreneurship) and Gaelic Jara Reinhold (BEng Engineering), is tackling the issue of personal safety with their innovative AI-powered protection badge.

Simply clip the badge onto your coat and activate it through the app, the AI model will then detect if there is a threat and contact the police to send you help.

Can a Master’s degree help you change careers? 🎓

After five years of working full-time, @annie_lighthouseexplorers knew she wanted a new direction. But breaking into the heritage industry felt out of reach.

Studying a Master’s at UCL gave her the opportunity to turn her passion into something real. Today, Annie is growing her own heritage venture with the @uclenterprise Hatchery Incubator Programme, bringing lighthouse stories into museums and heritage sites, and exploring the possibility of a PhD.

From finding her confidence to creating her own opportunities, Annie's postgraduate journey became about much more than a degree.

It's World Space Week 🌌🛰️🚀

UCL has long been recognised as a pioneer in space research, and we're also championing space innovation that brings benefits to the UK economy.

UCL's Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL), part of the Department of Space and Climate Physics, is the UK's largest university-based space research group and has been involved in over 300 space missions. UCL's growing space community brings together researchers from across the life sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering and technical disciplines.

We are driving growth in the space industry through collaborations with Space South Central, Satellite Applications Catapult, Seraphim Space VC, and the UK Space Agency.

We also support ingenious startups. These include Interstellar Space Technologies, which is part of the Hatchery, UCL's incubator programme. Another is Blue Skies Space, based at UCL's IDEALondon.

Meet Annie 👋

Annie had an idea for a heritage venture, Lighthouse Explorers. While studying for her MA in Cultural Heritage Studies, she found out about UCL's Venture Builder programme, a free nine-week programme for students, staff and recent grads.

Venture Builder enabled Annie to turn Lighthouse Explorers into a viable venture, and she also won £1,000 in investment.

Exciting news for UCL startup, Stasher 🎉 The company has secured £3 million in funding to accelerate global growth.

Set up by Jacob Wedderburn-Day (MSc Economics 2016) and Anthony Collias, Stasher connects travellers with secure luggage storage through a network of hotels, shops and other local businesses. The company now operates 10,000 storage locations across more than 1,200 cities worldwide.

Stasher’s founders were members of our UCL Hatchery incubator programme. Here they received mentoring, business support and free office space at BaseKX, UCL’s entrepreneurship hub.

The £3 million funding package comprises approximately £2 million in growth financing from Gilion and a £1 million strategic investment from smart locker provider Hive Box.

You don’t need to be a company founder with a ten-page pitch deck to attend our entrepreneurship events at UCL.

You might just be curious about entrepreneurship or simply want to meet ambitious and like-minded people.

A new programme to attract international space investment to the UK was announced yesterday at UCL 🛰️🇬🇧

Baroness Lloyd of Effra CBE, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Space, Cyber and Regulatory Reform, launched the UK Space Landing Pad Programme. She was joined by UCL staff and industry collaborators Seraphim Space VC, Space South Central (SSC), and the Satellite Applications Catapult.

The Landing Pad Programme is a six-month pilot to support international space companies establishing a commercial presence in the UK.

UCL has a long-standing track record of space innovation and international collaboration and brings its academic expertise, talent pipelines and R&D capabilities. The programme's companies will be based at IDEALondon, an innovation hub for startups, founded by UCL Engineering and operated by WilbeLAB.
