Deadline extended: Commercial Bar Opportunity Scholarship (COMBAR) – apply until 16 April!

We're delighted to share that the Commercial Bar Opportunity Scholarship, supported by the Commercial Bar Association (COMBAR), has had its deadline extended. Prospective students can now apply until 16 April 2026.

The scholarship provides funding for one UK-domiciled student of Black ethnicity or mixed Black heritage to undertake the full-time LLM at UCL Faculty of Laws.

The scholarship includes:

♦ Full tuition fee waiver
♦ £25,000 living stipend
♦ Mentorship from a practising Commercial Bar barrister

This opportunity is designed to support talented students aspiring to a career at the Commercial Bar and to help widen access to the profession.

🗓 Application deadline:
12:00 (noon) UK time, Thursday 16 April 2026

Applicants must submit a complete LLM application, including references, before completing the scholarship application form.

We’re delighted to share that UCL Faculty of Laws has been ranked 3rd in the UK for studying law in the latest league table from The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026. 🌟

UCL Laws scored particularly highly for graduate prospects – specifically, the percentage of graduates who secure high-level employment or pursue further studies within 15 months of graduating. 🎓

UCL has risen two places to be named third best university in Europe according to the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026. 🥉

This follows UCL retaining its place in the top 10 universities in the world for the 14th consecutive year in the QS global rankings in June 2025.

This achievement reflects our extensive European partnerships across research, education, and innovation, with a global community of over 3,000 European staff, more than 3,800 European students, and a network of 45,000 alumni.

UCL Laws is proud to host the UK debut of 𝘈 𝘓𝘜𝘛𝘈 𝘊𝘖𝘕𝘛𝘐𝘕𝘜𝘈, a travelling exhibition from the South African Constitutional Court Art Collection @concourt_art

Opened at Bentham House on 9 October 2026 as part of #UCL200 anniversary celebrations, the evening consisted of a panel discussion featuring leading scholars from the fields of law, art history, and politics, followed by a drinks reception and a chance for guests to explore the exhibition.

The exhibition gives visual expression to South Africa’s constitutional values of freedom, dignity and equality, and offers a unique perspective on the relationship between art, law and democracy.

It also coincides with the 30th anniversary of President Mandela signing the Constitution in 1996, celebrating the longstanding relationship between UCL Laws and South Africa.

✨ What a weekend! ✨

Over three fantastic days, alumni and friends of UCL Laws returned to Bentham House and beyond for our inaugural Laws Alumni Weekend. 🥳 🎓

From thought-provoking talks and panel discussions to a black tie gala dinner, the A LUTA CONTINUA exhibition, and the return of some familiar faces for the past UCL Law Society Presidents' moot, there was plenty to celebrate.

Most importantly, it was wonderful to see our community reconnect, reminisce, and create new memories together.

Thank you to everyone who joined the celebrations, and everyone who helped make it happen.
