Fall quarter is officially in full swing🍂 Programs like Global and Community Health (GCH) give you in-class and career experience you need to pursue a career in public health or professional school to become a doctor, dentist, or pursue other medical pathways.

On Sept. 22, @ucsc.gch hosted a major orientation to give students an overview of the program, degree requirements, what to expect from both the GCH B.A. and GCH B.S. degrees, and to meet program staff and faculty. Congratulations to CEJA undergraduate research assistant Emily Burich (global and community health, College Nine '27), who received the Weiss Family Scholarship for her work on our FRESH Study! 🩺

"This scholarship has helped me further develop an amazing community and a deeper love for research, especially through connecting with and learning from fellow students," Emily shared. "Working with the FRESH Study has been one of the highlights of my college experience, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to meaningful research that explores student health and well-being."

One of Emily's most memorable experiences at UC Santa Cruz has been joining the professional pre-health sorority Kappa Gamma Delta, which encouraged her to pursue her role here at CEJA. Through these experiences, she has built lasting connections and discovered new passions in health research and community engagement.

Looking ahead, Emily plans to gain clinical experience before applying to a Physician Assistant school, with interests in dermatology, pediatrics, or family medicine. "This scholarship's focus on strengthening student-faculty connections within the Social Sciences research centers is meaningful to me because mentorship has played a major role in my growth as a student and future healthcare professional," she said.
