Protests were reported in Udaipur on Saturday following an incident in which a Shivling was found damaged at a Mahadev temple in Indira Nagar Kachchi Basti under the Surajpole police station area.

Following a call by Hindu organisations, markets remained closed in parts of the city and a large number of people gathered at Delhi Gate, demanding strict action against those responsible.

According to the information available, police examined around 100 CCTV recordings and have detained a person described by police as a key suspect in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.

Security arrangements were also strengthened in view of the protest.

The Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) carried out a major enforcement drive on the 100 Feet Road near University Road, sealing more than 12 shops, including Daya Nashta Center.

According to officials, action was taken against establishments that were allegedly operating in violation of applicable regulations. A Home Guard contingent was deployed at the site as a large crowd gathered during the operation.

The action was carried out under the supervision of UDA officials Deepak Joshi and Rajesh Mehta, along with Revenue Inspector officials. Authorities said further measures are being taken to keep roads and the surrounding area व्यवस्थित and accessible.

The timing of the drive, amid the election Model Code of Conduct, has also sparked political discussion locally. Any political implications of the action, however, remain a matter of interpretation at this stage.

An incident of alleged vandalism has been reported at a Shiva temple in Manwakheda village near Udaipur, where an idol of Goddess Parvati was found damaged on Wednesday morning.

According to local residents, they noticed the damaged idol after reaching the temple and subsequently informed the police. Hiran Magri Police reached the spot, inspected the area and have reportedly begun examining CCTV footage from the temple and nearby locations.

A large number of villagers gathered at the temple and expressed concern over the incident, demanding that those responsible be identified and action be taken as per law.

At present, the identity of the person or persons involved and the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially established. Police investigation is underway.

The Udaipur Health Department has stepped up inspections of food establishments, with CMHO Dr. Ashok Aditya conducting surprise checks at more than a dozen restaurants around University Road and Bohra Ganeshji on Wednesday.

According to health officials, shortcomings related to kitchen cleanliness, waste disposal and food-safety compliance were observed at some establishments. Officials also said that required employee medical records and drinking-water test reports were unavailable at certain locations during the inspection.

Restaurant operators have reportedly been given 15 days to address the identified issues. The department has said that follow-up inspections will be conducted, and further action may be taken in accordance with food-safety rules if deficiencies continue.

The inspections were carried out following hygiene-related complaints from the area around Sukhadia University, where a large student population resides.

A temporary police outpost was inaugurated at Mukherjee Chowk Sabzi Mandi in Udaipur today, following a long-standing demand for increased police presence in the area.

The new outpost is expected to help improve police accessibility and enable quicker response to incidents and complaints, while providing greater reassurance to local residents and traders.

Political activity around the upcoming Udaipur Municipal Corporation elections has intensified after the reservation draw for all 80 wards was conducted at the Zila Parishad auditorium on Monday.

The process was held in the presence of District Collector Gaurav Agrawal, ADM Deependra Singh Rathore and Jitendra Ojha. The Mayor’s seat has been kept unreserved (open), allowing eligible candidates from any category to contest for the post.

Following the reservation draw, both the BJP and Congress have indicated that preparations for all 80 wards are underway. Party leaders said surveys and candidate-selection exercises are being carried out, while prospective candidates have also started becoming more active.

The 21st Grand Kanwar Yatra was taken out in Udaipur on Monday, with devotees praying for good rainfall, peace, happiness and prosperity across Mewar.

Beginning from Gangukund in Ayad, the yatra proceeded towards Ubeshwar Mahadev with a large number of Shiva devotees, including youth and women, participating enthusiastically. Around 15,000 devotees were expected to take part in the procession.

Along the route, devotees and social organisations welcomed the Kanwar yatris with flower showers, garlands and chants. The atmosphere echoed with “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bol Bam” as the procession made its way towards Ubeshwar Mahadev.

A shocking incident has surfaced from Punawali village in Udaipur district, where a missing couple, Laherilal Paliwal and his wife Radha Devi, were found dead inside a large trunk at their home.

Police reached the spot after neighbours noticed a strong foul smell coming from the house. Preliminary investigation has raised suspicion of murder, while Sayra Police are investigating when and how the couple died and who may be responsible.

More details are awaited as the investigation continues.
