The University of Florida Literacy Institute is honored to have been featured in WUFT’s Greater Good series showcasing non-profit organizations in North Central Florida and their impact on the community. While the focus of the segment is specific to Alachua County, it is a beautiful example of what is possible when schools, families, and communities come together to prioritize children’s literacy.

What are some ways you have seen this type of collaboration come to life in your communities?

“I now find myself reflecting, problem solving, and asking, ‘What would Mrs. Hammond do?’” — Katrina Isé, UF Elementary Education

Congratulations to our 2026 Clinical EduGator of the Year, Amy Hammond from Glen Springs Elementary School! This annual award is given to an outstanding mentor-teacher who demonstrates enthusiasm, provides constructive feedback, shares exemplary instructional practices and joyfully invests in interns’ success in the classroom.

Isé, the teacher candidate who nominated Hammond, shared, “Under her mentorship, I have learned that effective teaching is not about having all the answers, but also about remaining reflective, persistent, and committed to growth. She models what it means to continuously seek improvement not only for her students, but for herself and future educators.” taken in Glen Springs Elementary School by @uf_coe

As Teacher Appreciation Week wraps up, we’re excited to share moments from our Elementary Education Inquiry Showcase. Our pre-service EduGators proudly presented the knowledge and growth they’ve gained with their peers and mentors. The showcase and accompanying pinning ceremony celebrated the hard‑won successes of our graduating teacher candidates and the educators who guided them every step of the way.

A warm thank you to the inspiring teachers who turn student potential into knowledge and skills that benefit our communities and our world. We appreciate you and your immeasurable impact today and every day! 🎓✨ Two women embracing in a hug, one woman is holding a flower and an envelope. by @uf_coe
