This summer, the UF College of Dentistry’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery celebrated 50 years of excellence in patient care, education and surgical innovation.

During a special anniversary event, faculty, residents and alumni came together to reflect on the department’s evolution, from its earliest days to the nationally recognized program it is today.

Our upper level residents were taken to the Zimmer Biomet Institute yesterday by Dr. Frank Dolwick and Dr. Richard Nessif. There, the chiefs and juniors were able to perform various cadaver dissections and approaches to the TMJ getting hands-on experience alongside one of our field’s pioneers in TMJ surgery, Dr. Frank Dolwick.

A few weeks back some of our residents took the time to volunteer their Saturday with FreeDOM Clinic USA, overseeing dental students and providing free service and care in the form of emergency dental extractions and infection control for the poverty-stricken of North Florida. Preserve those telomeres folks!
