Today, Sungmin Cho, ILA alum and Senior Analyst at United Airlines on the Ancillary Products, visited with our students to share about what it is like working in a new corporate setting and how the values he learned during his time in ILA shape his career priorities. Students also enjoyed hearing about travel destination ideas from someone working in the airline industry.

For this week's student takeover, we're introducing 2028 Scholar, John Hana!

Outside ILA, John is involved in the Rogers Real Estate Investment Fund, he is a Student Analyst, Honors College Student Ambassador and the Director of Alumni Promotion for the Student Alumni Council. He is also on the Peer Assisted Leadership Committee for the Honors Student Association and he is the Vice President for Orthodox Christian Campus Ministries.

A fun fact about John is that he is Egyptian and has served on 3 mission trips abroad in Egypt!

When asked, "Why ILA?", he said:
"I chose ILA because I wanted to refine my skills as a leader, serve as a leader within the Terry College of Business, and ultimately unlock my fullest potential through self-reflection. In my first month of ILA, I’ve already learned so much about myself that has increased my intrinsic awareness so much and I already feel like I’m growing as a person. All the people in the program are awesome and I’m just so excited to be a part of a group of people who are all so driven to success and motivated to serve, leaving a long lasting impact on the Terry College of Business."

We loved welcoming back ILA Fellow, Shawn Mazyck, a Finance Rotation Analyst at Salesforce as our first Alum of the Day this year!

Shawn has just recently graduated from UGA and was able to share how Terry prepared him for his new position at Salesforce. He also gave advice in what to look for in companies after graduation and how his overall experience has been!

Introducing 2026 Fall Fellow, Lizzie Davis!

Outside of ILA, Lizzie serves as the president of Saving Smiles at UGA (pre-dental club), Fundraising chair for UGA Global Dental Brigades, Honor Chairwoman for Phi Mu Sorority, and she is a Peer Learning Assistant for the UGA Chemistry Department. Her other involvements include volunteering at Mercy Health Center as a Dental assistant and working at Social Closet as a sales associate.

A fun fact about Lizzie:
She worked on a dude ranch in Livermore, CO this summer as a Ranch Hand!

When asked, “Why ILA?” she said:
"I joined ILA because I believe becoming a better leader requires being willing to truly understand yourself. What I value most about ILA is how immersive and personal the experience is; it pushes you outside your comfort zone and encourages you to confront parts of yourself that may be difficult or uncomfortable to face. There is no shame in that process! Instead, ILA provides a space to genuinely examine every part of who you are and use that understanding to become a better version of yourself. As a biology major, I've also enjoyed stepping outside of my “science bubble” to learn alongside students from different majors and perspectives. I know those relationships and experiences will challenge how I think about leadership and the impact I can have on others from here on."

We are so excited to kick-off our student takeover series that we do every Thursday during the school year with 2026 Fall Fellow, Diego Somilleda!

Outside of ILA, Diego is involved with Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Fraternity, Association of Latino Professionals For America (ALPFA), UGA Scholarship Ambassadors, UGA Department of Alumni Relations, and the UGA Latino Alumni Council. As for Diego's previous professional experience, he has interned at J.P. Morgan, Historic Athens, the U.S. Senate, and is currently interning at the Athens Chamber of Commerce.

A fun fact about Diego:
Diego is a DJ and loves playing for friends or at local events around Athens!

When asked, “Why ILA?” he said:
"I specifically chose ILA because I wanted to become a better leader not just for myself, but also for my community. Growing up in Athens, I have always wanted to give back to the place that has poured so much into me, and I think the first step in leading that change is fostering a change within myself first."
