On Friday, October 2nd, Dr. Slovin and Dr. Voelker visited the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega for a master class and a recital. Thank you to Dr. Yin for having us, and to your students for being so open and creative, as well as engaged audience members!

As an added bonus, we got to meet former UGA pianist @viviandoublestein , who played beautifully for the master class.

On Thursday, September 24th, six of our amazing voice area and musical theater students had the opportunity to sing for @kelliohara , with @jiveysings at the piano. We all learned so much from her experience and wisdom. Congratulations to everybody on beautiful and meaningful performances, and thank you to Ms. O’Hara for your generosity!

Choral Day 2026 was an amazing celebration of all the things the human voice can do and of not only UGA’s choral program, but of high school choirs from all over the state. The voice area was proud to feature students Hope Unger, Amanda Ferreira, Lauren Smith, Nathaniel Long, Julian Rivera, Kathryn McWhorter, Ronan Gawley, Avery Twelkemeier, Brooke Chamrin, and Rock Chaney, assisted by pianists Rachel Townes, Eva Panagou, Annabel Shue, Carlos Varela, Elena Minko and Greg Hankins.

Thank you all for beautifully representing the work we do in the voice area!

We are so thrilled to share that @kelliohara will be working with UGA voice area and musical theater certificate students on Thursday, September 24th from 3-4:30 PM. This event is open to the public, so please join us in Ramsey Recital Hall.

Ms. O’Hara will also be performing in Hodgson Hall tomorrow night as part of @ugapresents . There are still tickets available!!

On Tuesday evening, @jayvivey and @drvoelker presented the first recital in the UGA Faculty Artist Series, Songs of the Wanderer, featuring song cycles by Jacques Ibert, Gerald Finzi and Gustav Mahler, and ending with a moving rendition of “The Impossible Dream” from Man of La Mancha. Students, faculty, and guests gathered in the lobby afterwards for a delicious reception!

Thank you, Dr. Ivey and Dr. Voelker, for your artistry and your vulnerability, and here’s to an amazing year ahead of recitals!

Join the School of Music this week for two free performances in Ramsey Concert Hall at the UGA Performing Arts Center. Tonight, September 1 at 7:30 p.m., the Faculty Artist Series presents “Songs of the Wanderer,” featuring baritone Jay Ivey and pianist Andrew Voelker. A meet-and-greet reception with the artists will immediately follow the performance.

On Friday, September 4 at 7:30 p.m., return to Ramsey Concert Hall for the UGA Choral Project’s presentation of “Beyond Egress: Works of Holst and Shaw featuring Schütz Musikalische Exequien.” This free performance will be led by conductor Colin Mann alongside Andrew Voelker on organ and Mía Mangano on violone.

Dr. Slovin is representing UGA at the @officialnats National Conference this weekend! She shared a presentation that she developed with Dr. Emily Siar of Boston Conservatory, called “Supporting Students with Voice Impairments in the Studio.” Best of all - her own undergraduate voice teacher and voice therapist were in the audience!
