Preparing the next generation of natural resources professionals. Major (or minor) in the outdoors! 🌲🥾⛺️

$As it flows through North Georgia’s Murray and Whitfield counties, the Conasauga River has been home to a treasure trove of rare freshwater fish and invertebrates, at one time supporting more than three dozen species of mussels. Many of those species have disappeared over the past few decades, and experts now estimate the river has only a fraction of the mussels it once held. Freshwater ecologists with the University of Georgia River Basin Center (including faculty and students from Odum School of Ecology and Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources), along with the University of Alabama and National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, are working to restock mussels as a part of a larger plan to rehabilitate the river.
