as i turn 30, i thought to myself, what am i most proud of? itā€™s this. I wrote, directed, and co-produced Afterglow, a sci-fi drama short that was filmed in the summer of 2025. As some of you may know, I had to leave the UK earlier this year and this really put a snag in the post-production process. Weā€™re almost done. Thank you for bearing with us. Iā€™ve always wanted to be a filmmaker, for as long as I can remember. The harsh reality of graduating from film school is that you donā€™t get to do what you actually want straight off the bat. Youā€™re told constantly about this ā€˜hustleā€™ and grind culture and so when things get hard, and sometimes almost impossibly hard, you feel like you have to tell yourself to accept that this is the norm. Itā€™s not an easy industry to make a name for yourself in, let alone being an immigrant in a country that does not have an accessible route for young creative freelancers. I saw a post recently that said to be an artist means that you have to be the exception. You have to succeed not just ā€˜because ofā€™, but also ā€˜in spite ofā€™. You have to keep going. I kept going. Iā€™ve always wanted to be a writer-director. And so along the way I learnt to be good at other things, producing, editing, as a way to further myself in the industry and become a better filmmaker. Itā€™s been three years since Iā€™ve graduated from university. Into a post-Covid industry, and just when we thought we were over that hill, the need for strikes arose and so our community came together to ensure the integrity of artists was preserved for the future. Itā€™s been three long, hard years of what I hope is only going to be a fraction of my career and I cannot wait to share some good news with everyone when the time comes. Keep working at it, everyone. Keep the dream alive. I needed a little reminder that I was meant to be a director and so I put this together. Maybe itā€™ll help remind you too that you still have that spark. Breathe some newfound fire into it. ā¤ļø by @uhvind
