Immersive Spotlight!

Ella McDaniel, Year 2 student, is spending her semester at Empowering Athletes, LLC in Hanover, MA learning from her preceptors Jaimie Doherty, MSEd, LAT, ATC and Samantha Wall, MS, LAT, ATC.

During her time at Empowering Athletes, Ella primarily is in a clinic setting gaining experience with athletes of all ages. She is learning specialized skills in injury prevention and rehabilitation, especially with perform arts athletes, such as dancers and gymnasts. Outside of the clinic, Ella helps out with the local high school football games!

Ella has also had the opportunity to attend several conferences alongside her preceptors. She learned about sports medicine considerations for figure skating athletes at the Ruth Solomon Symposium for Performing Artist Athletes and assisted in giving a presentation for spine boarding in a foam pit at the Gymnastics Sports Medicine Conference.

Ella has loved working with athletes that specialize in dance and performing arts as well as seeing how an AT clinic setting operates. Go Hawks! by @uiowa_at

Immersive Spotlight🔦

Our year 2 students are on their immersive clinical experiences this fall. They are gone from August 1 until January 1 getting the full experience of AT life. We are excited to share where they are spending their semesters.

First Up is Ava Klescewski! Ava is spending her immersive clinical experience with the University of South Dakota 🏈 team in Vermillion, SD.

Ava has loved working under the direction of preceptor Brooke Opdahl MS, LAT, ATC where she has gained valuable hands-on experience in the D1 football setting. She has enjoyed being able to expand her hands-on skills, and explore new cities when the team travels. Ava has also expanded her understanding of operating within an interprofessional team, working with the Team Physical Therapists and Team Physicians.

This immersive experience has allowed her to build strong bonds with athletes on the team and build a new connection with the University of South Dakota! Go Hawks! by @uiowa_at
