The 2026–27 Performing Arts at Iowa season is underway.

@performingartsatiowa has announced everything from opera and orchestral concerts to theatre productions, dance performances, and new works created by students and faculty.

The season also celebrates the opening of the Department of Dance's new home and the 10th anniversary of Voxman Music Building. Audiences can experience more than 350 performances this academic year from @uiowadance, @uiowamusic, and @uiowatheatre.

"Catherine Xu was one of our earliest participants," Department of Mathematics Associate Professor, Mohammad Farajzadeh Tehrani, recalls of the student who would go on to win the 2026 gold medal with Team USA at the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad.

Her story began years earlier through the Iowa City Math Club and Iowa Junior Math Academy, where students discover a side of math that isn't about memorizing formulas—it's about proving ideas, asking questions, and tackling problems together.

Today, those same programs are helping more Iowa students find opportunities they might never have known existed. Behind every unforgettable student experience is a team that makes it happen.

The Iceland Interdisciplinary Student Expedition gave University of Iowa students the opportunity to design, build, and launch high-altitude research balloons as they prepared for the 2026 total solar eclipse in Iceland. Along the way, students explored how science, sustainability, engineering, and the arts work together to solve real-world challenges.

That experience was made possible through collaboration across campus, including CLAS faculty and staff Stratis Giannakouros and Adam Skibbe from @sees_ui, and Thalassa Raasch and expedition leader Steve McGuire from @uiowaart. What can a bachelor's degree @socialworkiowa do for you? For your community?

For CLAS alumna Jennifer Skolaski, it led to a career helping communities tackle some of their toughest challenges—from early childhood education to overdose prevention.

The 2005 CLAS graduate now brings together public health professionals, law enforcement, recovery specialists, and community leaders to help prevent overdose deaths in Wisconsin. Along the way, she's discovered that some of the most valuable skills she learned at Iowa weren't just about solving problems—they were about understanding people and seeing the bigger picture. For CLAS students studying dance, music, and theatre, it's another season of inspiration just beyond the classroom. @UIHancher has announced the 2026–27 season, bringing Broadway, music, dance, comedy, and more to Iowa City.

As a partner in @PerformingArtsatIowa, many visiting artists go beyond the stage—working directly with students in music, dance, and theatre throughout the academic year.

A new chapter begins...

As of July 1, the Department of Religious Studies and the Department of Classics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have officially joined forces to become one: Classics and Religious Studies!

Two great programs, one shared mission—exploring ancient cultures and ideas to help students tackle today's challenges @uiowacars.
