The MBHS Takeover Show, this Sunday July 25th, 2pm to 4pm is a special tribute show to the late Lebert Simpson and Joseph Grant, former MBHS-ites class and school mates who have transitioned.

Souls Liberation will be in a catch up conversation with bonafide friend Neily Stew and Reverend Karleen Wanliss will also be in conversation to read a scripture and say a prayer for our past friends and present MBHS-ites.

Amidst the tribute will be the usual requests of classic tunes from the group members and a special selection of tracks from Lebert’s wife Althea and his sisters Cynthia and Patrice in his honour.

A special show to reflect, enjoy great music selections, chats and to celebrate life and the coming together of friends and embracing friendships. Embracing the MBHS family.

Tune in, share the vibe, spread the love 😊.

Today on The Word with Miranda on @ujimaradio_official we look back at was a truly iconic celebration of Bristol, the 55th Bristol Harbour Festival. Featuring over 900 artists including all the spectacular displays on & off the water including the return of @james.prestwood with his high octane Flyboard display and for the 1st time his LED Night Time show unlike anything anyone has ever seen in Bristol before. Plus @redbulluk greasy pole competition plus taster sessions to get on the water from paddle board sessions to sailing to kayaking and so much more. This year @bristolharbourfest created a festival unlike any other with a commitment to diversity. A superb team pf curators from @swans_events spent a year in consultation with community members and organisations to ensure a festival that was truly diverse and inclusive. For the first time ever on the main stage they featured a unique and intergenerational collaboration with global reggae legends @black.roots2018 and one of the UKs fastest growing artists @delocx who joined them on stage. The festival also featured @drmeaker The lineup also included @yusuf.suave @ngaioamusi and @kogmusicuk and Sunday kicked off with the @soundwomenbristol Showcase, an electrifying celebration of grassroots, inclusion and diversity featuring some of the top tier of talent in the UK including @augustofficialmusic @missfaithee @chiedzauk and all hosted seamlessly by @missdivine.ujimaradio the event wasn't just a musical showcase, it was a call to celebrate innovation, diversity, and change in the sound world. Ujima's very own @dancehallgenerals then took over hosting an incredible afternoon featuring Black Roots and Delocx.

90 years ago this year, Emperor Haile Selassie stood before the League of Nations and warned the world that aggression left unchecked would eventually threaten every nation.

Many dismissed his words.

History proved him right.

Today, on Earthday—the 134th anniversary of his birth, celebrated by the Rastafarian community—we remember not only the man, but the enduring message of justice, peace and shared humanity.

This is “Today It’s Us Tomorrow You”, performed by the legendary Carlton Smith (Black Roots) from our forthcoming concept album Emperor In Exile, telling the remarkable story of Haile Selassie’s years of exile in Bath.

May his message continue to inspire us all.

Happy Earthday.

#Glocal Fri 24th July
12 noon UK/11am Ghana on ujimaradio.com or Bristol DAB/98fm

We continue to delve into some of the festivals happening this season. This week we explore the cultural, spiritual and celestial significance of the Homowo festival observed by the GaDangme people in July/Aug before the new year begins in September.

We ask:
What are the roots of Homowo?
What is involved in preparing for Homowo and on the main celebration days?
What are some of the customs and rituals and what do they represent?
Are there specific roles in the festivities based on age, gender, standing in the community?

We explore all this and more with Bro Nii Mantse - founder of @indegenousintelligence
