Once again, folks gathered in front of the Salt Lake City Federal Building protesting the genocide in Gaza and the horrific role of the American government in arming Israel. Many passing cars honked their approval of the weekly protest. (Although this is a weekly Friday 5-7pm event, we will not be there Oct.9 because the U of U MECHA chapter will be screening the film, “Palestine 36”, an outstanding historical drama at the university. Utahns for a Just Peace in the Holy Land had a great success with their booth at the Ninth & Night street fair! We sold many items featuring hand-stitched traditional Palestinian embroidery (Tatreez) made by refugees currently living in southern Lebanon. We also sold bottles of Palestinian olive oil, keffeyas, and Nablus soap. Our booth provided educational materials and we enjoyed a lot of positive interaction with fair attendees. The Salt Lake Bakers for Palestine sold a lot of tasty treats , too. We will be back with a booth at the Avenues street fair on October 10. A coalition of Palestinian and progressive groups is urging universities, think tanks, elected officials, and others to refuse to hire or collaborate with a group of 20 former Biden officials accused of “promoting, lying about, and covering up the Gaza genocide.” The “Drop the Genocide 20” campaign is targeting several former Biden staffers, including Antony Blinken, who served as secretary of state; andJake Sullivan, who served as national security adviser.
