The hottest day of the year - @slaughtersmanor and a beautiful intimate ceremony for a wonderful couple who I first met at the venue having braved floods and high winds to come and a look around on a Wedding Open Day ! Polar opposites in the weather - so after a ceremony in the Rose Room I played in the shade of the trees in the garden ..A perfect day !

Yes, I’ll play at your wedding but I WILL have to rock out! 🤘🏻 I loved playing for yesterday’s open air wedding and it gave me the chance to visit somewhere I have always wanted to see… Bressingham Hall and Gardens and a sneak peek at the miniature steam railway but (luckily?) it wasn’t in operation or I may not have made it to the ceremony!
Keen eyes will spot a massive plank of wood that me and the wedding coordinator dragged all the way to the ceremony spot before realising there was in fact a wee house for me! Noted for next time as it wasn’t a short walk….By the time I’d set up I needed to change my outfit because I had dragged my first 👗 dress (I usually turn up in something smart just incase there’s terrible traffic!) through a lot of dewy grass and kept stamping on the bottom of it as I negotiated 🌲 the beautiful🌳 gardens!! 🌺
The music choices were so cute for this couple: The Groom’s choice of Yusuf/Cat Stevens’ Morning Has Broken sounded glorious with birdsong just before the bride arrived; before that, I made some of my own choices based on what they seemed to like: Eva Cassidy’s Somewhere over the rainbow, Wild Horses by Rolling Stones, Friday I’m in Love by The Cure, Here, There and Everywhere by The Beatles and All You Need Is Love as some of the pre-ceremony music. Ceremony choices for the couple were Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know, Married Life from Up by Giacchino (arr. Sylvia Woods, I opted for her arrangement because I can make it more upbeat and fun than struggling through the piano score!) and God Only Knows by The Beach Boys. These days you can have songs with God in for civil ceremonies, which was new to me, just get them approved by the registrars.
Top tip for pro musicians: Add a few short songs written by your friends to your playlist e.g. Home by @eleanor.harpist Eleanor Dunsden, Breathe by @harpistkeziah and Looking at a Rainbow Through a Dirty Window by @rachelhair and when you register your set list with PRS and subsequently ‘Report Your Setlist’ on the PRS website, your friends can earn money whilst you work!
