The UK Centre for Carnival Arts (UKCCA) is looking for passionate and collaborative individuals to fill 2 roles:

Artistic Learning, Participation and Administration Assistant

Learning & Participation Project Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and play a key part in delivering and developing our Carnival arts programmes; including Luton International Carnival, while building strong relationships with schools, young people, communities and partners.

Equity, diversity and inclusion sit at the heart of everything we do, and we especially welcome applications from people with lived experience of the communities and the arts we work with.

Through @s.h.a.c.e, my creative academy, I’ve had the privilege of teaching carnival arts to everyone from primary school children to adults, sharing not only how we make, but how we can rethink the materials we make with.

This intensive week with students from @barnfieldcollege , hosted at @ukcca, was particularly special. I watched confidence grow, ideas developed, and young people become increasingly expressive and engaged.

One student, who had initially been very reluctant to communicate, became so engaged over the course of the week that by the end, they confidently took part in an interview with the BBC about their experience.

For me, that is where the real magic lies.

Carnival arts can be so much more than the finished costume. They can create space to experiment, communicate, collaborate, discover new skills, and imagine new creative possibilities.

Several of these young people left the week thinking differently about where their creativity might take them.

And that makes me incredibly proud. 🙏🏿 💚

SHACE’s carnival arts initiatives have been supported by the Greener Futures Fund, helping us continue to explore and share more resource-conscious approaches to mas making.

World Steel Pan Day celebration! 🥁🇹🇹🌍

One instrument. So many voices. One incredible legacy.

From the bright, melodic notes of the tenor pan to the rich mid-range of the double seconds and cellos, right through to the deep, powerful sounds of the bass pans, a steel orchestra brings together an entire world of sound. Every pan has its own voice, every player has their own part, and together they create the energy, movement and unmistakable rhythm that makes Carnival come alive. 🔥

But Pan is about more than the instruments themselves. It’s about the people who bring them to life — the players, arrangers, tuners, band leaders, mentors, communities and generations who continue to nurture and develop this incredible art form.

Born in Trinidad & Tobago, Pan grew from the creativity, innovation and resilience of communities who found new ways to make music and celebrate together. From the panyards and streets of Trinidad, its sound has travelled across the world, becoming an integral part of Carnival and inspiring musicians and audiences across generations.

Today, we celebrate the full steel orchestra — every note, every rhythm, every player and every person working behind the scenes to keep the sound moving forward. We honour the pioneers who laid the foundations, while celebrating the new generation taking Pan into the future.

We’re proud to support the legacy of Pan — respecting its roots, celebrating its evolution and helping ensure that its sound continues to be heard, felt and experienced wherever Carnival comes alive. ❤️💛🖤

Family Garden Day with Lea Vale Medical Group 💚

What a fantastic day bringing families, local residents and community services together at St. John the Baptist Church, Rotheram Ave, Farley Hill, LU1 5PP! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🎉

From face painting and colourful carnival costumes to meeting local health and community services, there was plenty of fun, laughter and activities for everyone to enjoy!

It was a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, connect with others, discover local support and celebrate the amazing community around us.

World Steel Pan Day celebration! 🥁🇹🇹🌍

Today, we celebrate the sound, spirit and story of Pan — a truly iconic creation from Trinidad & Tobago and a powerful expression of Carnival culture that has travelled far beyond its birthplace.

Born in Trinidad in the 20th century, the steelpan emerged from the creativity, resilience and resourcefulness of communities who transformed discarded oil drums into a new form of musical expression. What began as an innovative response to changing times grew into a unique instrument, a cultural movement and a sound that would become synonymous with Carnival.

From the streets and panyards of Trinidad to Carnival celebrations across the globe, Pan has brought people together through rhythm, creativity and community. It has created spaces for musicians to learn, perform and pass knowledge from one generation to the next.

Today, we honour the pioneers, pannists, arrangers, tuners, steel orchestras and communities who helped shape this incredible tradition — and celebrate the young players and new generations who are continuing to push Pan forward.

We’re proud to support the legacy of Pan and its place within Carnival: respecting where it came from, celebrating what it represents today, and helping ensure its sound and story continue to be heard, felt and shared for generations to come. ❤️💛🖤

Because Pan is more than an instrument. It is history. It is culture. It is community. It is Carnival.
