Why do events like the Dorset Chamber Expo matter? Because they help us build meaningful connections with businesses that can make a real difference to the lives of cardiac patients and their families.

Last week, our Events and Corporate Fundraising Coordinator, Matthew, attended the Dorset Chamber Expo, meeting a wide range of local businesses and sharing how partnering with Heartbeat can create a lasting impact within the cardiac community.

With 40% of the families staying at Rotary Heartbeat House coming from Dorset, it is important that we continue to grow our presence across the county, raising awareness of the support available and building relationships that help us reach even more people when they need us most.

A huge thank you to Dorset Chamber for their ongoing support and for providing opportunities for us to connect with the local business community. by @ukheartbeat

❤️ Our First Cardiac Transition Clinic Launches ❤️

Last week marked a truly special milestone as our cardiac youth worker Becky welcomed young cardiac patients to our very first Cardiac Transition Clinic.

Moving from paediatric to adult services can feel like a big step, bringing new questions, responsibilities and emotions. The clinic provides a friendly and supportive space where young people can meet both the paediatric and adult cardiac teams, gain information about the transition process, and build confidence for the journey ahead.

By helping young people feel informed, empowered and connected to the teams who will support them into adulthood, we are ensuring they never have to face this next chapter alone.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this clinic possible. Together, we're helping young people take the next step in their cardiac journey with confidence, reassurance and support every step of the way. by @ukheartbeat

🏅 Congratulations to Holly Stroud! 🏅
A huge thank you to Holly, who has completed the Cardiff Marathon and raised an incredible £670 and counting for Heartbeat! ❤️
Holly took on this amazing challenge in honour of her dad, who suffered multiple heart attacks in 2023 and underwent major heart surgery at Southampton Hospital. Following his operation, he spent a week on life support with just a 50% chance of survival, leaving Holly, her siblings and family facing an incredibly frightening and uncertain time.
During his treatment and recovery, Rotary Heartbeat House provided Holly's family with a place to stay just minutes from the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, allowing them to remain close to their dad when they needed it most. Over the months that followed, Heartbeat continued to support the family with accommodation whenever he returned for treatment.
Reflecting on her challenge, Holly said:
"Every mile I ran will was for my dad and the fight he put into recovering from such an awful disease. It was for the families waiting, hoping and praying for their loved ones to recover and come home. And most importantly, it was for my dad, the person who showed me what it truly means to fight."
Inspired by her dad's extraordinary courage and determination, Holly turned what was originally an opportunity to support a friend into a powerful fundraising challenge for a cause that means so much to her family.
Thank you, Holly, for sharing your story, taking on 26.2 miles, and helping ensure more families can stay close to the people they love during their most difficult moments. 💙
👏 Join us in congratulating Holly on this incredible achievement by @ukheartbeat

💙 “I love being part of the Cardiac PEEER group. It makes me realise I am not alone.”

Being diagnosed with a heart condition at a young age can be incredibly isolating. While friends are focused on school, work, university, and socialising, many young young cardiac patients are navigating hospital appointments, treatments, and an uncertain future.

💙 "It can feel like no one truly understands what you're going through, but being here and a part of the group has helped me make friends and have fun again.”

These words perfectly capture why Heartbeat delivers the Cardiac PEEER Residential each year.

Our latest residential at Calshot Activities Centre brought together an inspiring group of young cardiac patients for a weekend filled with adventure, friendship, and support. From paddleboarding and cooking sessions to games, movie nights, seaweed discovery and creative seaweed art, the residential gave young people the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and create memories that weren't centred around their heart condition.

But the real magic happened in the conversations, the laughter, and the connections formed.

For many, it was the first time they had met others who truly understood what living with a heart condition feels like. Together, they shared experiences, supported one another, built lasting friendships, and discovered that they are not alone.

Because life as a young cardiac patient is about so much more than appointments, tests, and hospital visits.

It's about building confidence. Finding your community. Creating friendships. Having fun. And realising that a heart condition does not define who you are.

Moments like these are why the Cardiac PEEER programme is so important, helping young people not just survive, but thrive. 💙 by @ukheartbeat

💙 When businesses come together, lives can be changed. 💙

"Heart disease can affect so many families, so if we can help make an impact to improve heart health, we are helping the cardiac community."

This powerful belief is why AtkinsRéalis chose Heartbeat as their Charity of the Year, and their latest fundraising event perfectly demonstrated the difference that can be made when organisations unite behind a shared cause.

Nine teams took to the court, bringing energy, determination, and plenty of competitive spirit to a corporate netball tournament in support of Heartbeat. While there could only be one winner, every team played their part in supporting local cardiac patients and their families.

🏆 Congratulations to Currie & Brown, who were crowned Netball Champions!
👏 And a special mention to Team Heartbeat, who proudly battled their way to 5th place.

Most importantly, together they raised an incredible £2,216 to help Heartbeat continue providing vital support, accommodation, equipment, rehabilitation, and wellbeing services for those affected by heart disease.

A heartfelt thank you to Currie & Brown, Chalk Creatives, Vail Williams, Kier, AtkinsRéalis, Gleeds, HNW Architects, and Noviun Architects for getting involved. Your support goes far beyond a day on the netball court. You are helping to raise awareness of heart health, support local cardiac patients, and create a lasting impact across our communities.

Every pound raised, every conversation started, and every partnership formed helps us move one step closer to a future where no one faces heart disease alone. by @ukheartbeat

Learning how to save a life is one of the most valuable skills anyone can have, and having the confidence to use a defibrillator has never been more important. ❤️

On Saturday 26th September, 20 people came together at The Holy Family Catholic Church Hall in Millbrook to take part in a CPR and defibrillator awareness session. The group enthusiastically got involved in the practical demonstrations and left feeling more confident about what to do in a cardiac emergency.

A huge thank you to Catherine and Gary Longland for helping to organise the event. Gary recently purchased a defibrillator for the church through Heartbeat, helping to make their community safer and better prepared should the unthinkable happen.

We were also delighted to welcome Geraint Morton from Meon Valley Heartstart, a Consultant Cardiologist at Portsmouth Hospital, who delivered an informative and engaging session for everyone attending.

Thank you to the church for their wonderful hospitality and refreshments throughout the morning. Together, we're helping to create more communities that are ready to respond and save lives. 💙 by @ukheartbeat

Why does Rotary Heartbeat House matter so much to families facing a Cardiac medical crisis? ❤️
At a recent Alderney Rotary Club luncheon, guests heard an incredibly moving and personal account from Isabelle Whyte, who shared her experience of staying at Rotary Heartbeat House while her husband, Tom, underwent six weeks of treatment at University Hospital Southampton.
During what was an incredibly challenging time, Rotary Heartbeat House became a true home from home. Isabelle spoke about the practical and emotional support it provided, from being just a three-minute walk from the hospital to having access to cooking and laundry facilities, allowing her to focus on supporting Tom rather than worrying about accommodation costs. A six-week hotel stay would have cost thousands of pounds, whereas Rotary Heartbeat House was available for just a £50 key deposit.
The luncheon raised a fantastic £600 to help ensure more families can access this vital support when they need it most. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, donated, and contributed raffle prizes, as well as to the wonderful team at The Braye Beach Hotel for hosting and helping to make the event such a success. We are also extremely grateful for all the support and continued support from Alderney Rotary Club who are huge advocates for us on the Island of Alderney.
A special thank you to Isabelle and Tom for sharing their story so openly and helping to shine a light on the difference Rotary Heartbeat House makes to families across the Bailiwick and beyond.
Stay tuned for more speaker luncheons in the months ahead. Together, we can continue supporting families through some of life's most difficult moments. by @ukheartbeat

💙 “My life changed at the age of 29 when I had my first heart attack. Then, after getting back on my feet, I was hit again at the age of 50 with a second heart attack.”

For Simon, heart disease isn't something he's only heard about. It's something he's lived through.

After surviving two heart attacks, Simon understands just how quickly life can change. As he says, “You never think this sort of thing will happen to you.”

Now, he's determined to give back to the cause that supported the cardiac team who helped save his life, turning his gratitude into action to help others facing their own cardiac journey.

🥊 That's why Revolution Boxing Southampton is hosting a family-friendly charity boxing event in aid of Reach Learning Disabilities Charity and Heartbeat.

This fantastic community fundraiser is about more than boxing. It's about people coming together to support local patients and families during some of the most difficult times of their lives. Every ticket purchased, every donation made, and every person cheering from the side lines will help make a real difference.

Simon's story is a powerful reminder that heart disease can affect anyone, at any age. By supporting events like this, we're helping ensure that cardiac patients and their loved ones continue to receive the care, support, and resources they need when they need them most.

❤️ If you'd like to support Simon's incredible fundraising efforts and help make a difference for local patients and families, please consider making a donation via the link below. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps.
