I Am Officially A First Generation Graduate!
+ HAPPY MF JUNETEENTH! ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

Can we get vulnerable for a second? 🥹
.
.
.
I was raised in the foster care system, birth parents ass, school systems sucked, and making community was quite difficult to nearly impossible growing up! I left everything I knew at 15 to create something better for myself… I am so grateful and proud of that little girl for being so brave. For taking the first step, for speaking up for her future, for knowing she deserved better and actually doing something about it. I thank her for staying soft through the hardness. For choosing to raise her siblings with tenderness, even when she was still learning how to mother herself. For homing a crazy chihuahua during the pandemic she had no business adopting. For taking a break from school to find her passions, through music, art, and dance. I thank her for believing in herself when no one else did.

Because of her, yes I got my degree, but I also became a signed model, with my face beaming down from buildings in New York. Because of her, I starred in commercials, acted in several award winning films, and toured with my band. Because of her, I became the kind of woman who doesn’t bring something to the table but builds her own, and pulls up some chairs for others to sit with her.

This degree means more than a piece of paper. It’s proof that healing is rebellious, that hope is revolutionary and that love.. ESPECIALLY SELF-LOVE is enough to shift everything.

I AM A FIRST GENERATION GRADUATE!! AND I DIDN’T JUST MAKE IT — I CREATED IT!

For the little girl in me.
For the people I love.
For every cycle I broke.
And for the future I now get to choose!

THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO SUPPORTED AND LOVED ME ALONG THE WAY! I PROMISE IT WILL NOT GO FORGOTTEN

We made it. 🎓✨
