Before you start working in the UK, please understand these British workplace quirks 🇬🇧💼
They may look funny — but trust me, they are non-negotiable 😅
Which one feels the most accurate?

👇👇👇

1️⃣ The ‘Sorry’ reflex is automatic 🥺
You’ll apologise for everything — walking past someone, small typos, or even when they bump into you. It’s muscle memory.

2️⃣ Lunch = packed lunch culture 🍎🥪
Café lunches aren’t the norm. Leftovers in Tupperware = peak professionalism. Bonus points for a cool bag.

3️⃣ Weather talk is compulsory 🌦️
Before any serious discussion, you must comment on how cold, rainy, or “unexpectedly warm” it is. No exceptions.

4️⃣ Meetings begin after the drink check ☕
Tea? Coffee? Water?
The kettle queue is the unofficial start of the meeting.

5️⃣ Being called “mate” is a big deal 🤝
It means you’re trusted. You’ve passed the vibe check. Don’t force it — let it happen naturally.

6️⃣ “Quite good” actually means excellent 👍
British praise is subtle.
“Not bad” = very impressive.
Direct compliments are rare and coded.

7️⃣ Email sign-offs matter… a lot 📧
“Kind regards,” “Best,” “Cheers,” or “Thanks so much” are chosen strategically. This is workplace diplomacy.

8️⃣ The legendary ‘Pub Lunch Friday’ 🍻
Spoken about all week, respected deeply, and may or may not involve actual productivity afterwards.

9️⃣ Vague out-of-office messages are intentional ✈️
It’s never “I’m going to Spain.”
It’s simply “Out of office next week.”
No questions asked.

🔟 The stationery cupboard is sacred 🔒
Premium pens are not communal property. Take one without asking and risk a passive-aggressive email.

⭐ BONUS: The ‘Lovely’ paradox
When someone says, “Oh, that’s lovely” —
it could mean approval… or silent disagreement.
Context is EVERYTHING.

😂🇬🇧 Office life in the UK is polite, subtle, and deeply coded.

☕ Everyday Behaviour
	•	Saying “sorry” even when it’s not your fault (or when someone bumps into you).
	•	Queuing religiously and judging anyone who doesn’t.
	•	Drinking tea for every emotion — stress, sadness, joy, confusion, all of it.
	•	Complaining about the weather daily, even when it’s fine.
	•	Calling everyone “mate” (even strangers).
	•	Saying “you alright?” as a greeting, not an actual question.
	•	Holding doors open even if the person is a solid 10 metres away.
	•	Understating everything — “Not bad” = excellent. “Bit cold” = freezing.
	•	Feeling awkward when someone talks too loudly in public.

⸻

🍴 Food & Drink
	•	Suddenly craving a Sunday roast.
	•	Putting milk in tea before or after and having strong opinions about it.
	•	Eating crisps with sandwiches.
	•	Saying “fancy a cuppa?” before starting any serious conversation.
	•	Loving biscuits more than dessert.
	•	Knowing exactly what a “Greggs run” means.
	•	Finding comfort in beans on toast (and being weirdly proud of it).

⸻

🌧️ Lifestyle & Language
	•	Checking the weather app constantly but still bringing a brolly “just in case.”
	•	Adding “cheers” at the end of every message or email.
	•	Referring to the time in “half four” instead of 4:30.
	•	Saying “proper” before everything (“proper nice,” “proper cold,” “proper fit”).
	•	Watching the Eurovision or the Great British Bake Off unironically.
	•	Developing strong tea brand loyalties (Yorkshire Tea vs PG Tips).
	•	Calling the supermarket “Tesco’s” even if it’s just “Tesco.”
	•	Dressing for mild weather like it’s summer. by @ukshuke

These looks normal but it’s illegal ✌️✌️

1. Touching or disturbing wild birds (like geese, swans, or their nests)

All wild birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
Touching, catching, harming, or even disturbing nests/eggs is illegal.

2. Picking wildflowers in certain protected areas

It’s illegal in SSSIs (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) and for some protected species anywhere.

3. Taking pebbles, sand, or shells from UK beaches

This is considered removal of natural resources — can lead to fines.

4. Using your phone while supervising a learner driver

Even if you’re not driving, it counts as using a phone “in control of a vehicle”.

5. Letting a dog stick its head out of a car window if it’s not secured

Dogs must be restrained in vehicles by law.

6. Flying a drone near people, houses, or above 400 ft without registration

Many hobbyists don’t realise this is regulated.

7. Recycling batteries or electricals in your normal household bin

Banned by waste and environmental laws. Must be taken to collection points.

8. Leaving your engine running while parked (“idling”)

This is illegal near schools and can be fined anywhere if you refuse to switch it off.

9. Not picking up dog poo, even in quiet rural areas

It’s illegal in most public spaces under local authority orders.

10. Carrying a knife “for convenience”

Even a small kitchen knife or multi-tool can be illegal unless you have a reasonable excuse.

11. Cycling on the pavement

Offence under the Highways Act unless it’s a designated cycle path.

12. Letting kids under 12 cook alone in an unsupervised kitchen

This can be treated as neglect/endangerment if something happens.

13. Selling or giving someone contact lenses if you aren’t an optician

Even coloured cosmetic lenses count.

14. Having a BB gun or realistic toy gun visible in public

Considered an imitation firearm — illegal unless transported safely.

15. Installing a CCTV camera that records beyond your boundary without complying with GDPR

Even a doorbell camera must follow data-protection rules.

Want to work in the UK as a professional athlete or sports coach? 🇬🇧🏅

The UK International Sportsperson Visa is a route worth knowing about, but it is not a general visa for anyone who simply plays sport.

To qualify, you normally need endorsement from the relevant UK sporting governing body, and your sponsor must be able to issue you a Certificate of Sponsorship.

In my full video I explain things like:

Who can qualify as a player or coach
How governing body endorsement works
How sponsorship and CoS work
English language requirements
Documents and costs
Dependants
Second jobs
Switching from another visa
And the possible route towards ILR

The main thing to understand is that this route is aimed at elite sportspersons and qualified coaches who are internationally established.

🎥 Full video is on YouTube

Go to YouTube and search UKSHUKE and you’ll see my latest video on the UK International Sportsperson Visa.

If you’re into sports and planning your future in the UK, this one is definitely worth watching.

⚠️ Disclaimer: This is general information only and not immigration advice. Always check the latest GOV.UK guidance and the requirements of the relevant sporting governing body before applying.

Tesco Diwali offers are getting dangerous for the wallet 😂🪔🇬🇧

I went again to check what else was on offer and there’s actually quite a lot this time.

Rice, ghee, coconut water, Indian juices, biscuits, rusk, masalas, sauces, ready made Indian food, chocolates, sweets and more.

If these are things you already use regularly, this is honestly a good time to stock up a little because a lot of them can be kept and used later.

Just do the usual checks before buying:

Compare the actual price
Check the expiry date
And don’t buy 10 packets just because the yellow label looks exciting 😂

Offers can vary by store, so definitely check your local Tesco and especially the world food aisle.

Send this reel to your Indian friends in the UK so they don’t miss the Diwali offers 🪔

🇬🇧 Big driving licence changes have started from October 2026, but before everyone panics, these new rules currently apply in Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland has introduced a new Graduated Driver Licensing system from 1 October 2026.

Here’s what has changed 👇

1. Learners may need to learn for at least 6 months

New learner drivers covered by the scheme must complete a minimum 6 month learning period before taking their practical test. They also need to complete structured training and a logbook.

2. New drivers will display R plates for longer

After passing, drivers under the new system will display R plates for 2 years.

3. Young drivers get night passenger restrictions

If you are under 24, during your first 6 months after passing you can normally carry only one passenger aged 14 to 20 between 11pm and 6am.

There are exceptions, including immediate family and situations where an experienced driver aged 21+ is sitting in the front.

4. Breaking certain rules could be expensive

Some breaches can result in 3 penalty points and a fine of up to £1,000.

5. GB provisional licence holders also need to know this

From 1 October, people with a Great Britain provisional licence can no longer book or take certain car or motorcycle theory and practical tests in Northern Ireland. You generally need a Northern Ireland provisional licence instead.

⚠️ Important: The 6 month minimum learning period being discussed for England and Wales is still a separate proposal. Don’t assume these Northern Ireland rules automatically apply across the whole UK.

📌 Source: The Independent, 12 October 2026 and official NI Direct guidance

Send this to someone currently learning to drive in the UK 🚗🇬🇧

Coming to the UK soon? 🇬🇧

One thing I’d genuinely suggest is, don’t spend all your time only thinking about visa documents, packing and university.

If you still have a few weeks or months before moving, use that time to build some practical skills that can actually help once you arrive.

Things like:

Communication and customer service
Excel and Google Sheets
Sales and people skills
Retail, hospitality or barista basics
Digital marketing, video editing, SEO and data analytics
AI tools for research, CVs, presentations and everyday work
And most importantly, learn how to actually explain your skills confidently in an interview

These things do NOT guarantee you a job in the UK.

But if you already have some practical experience, a small portfolio and confidence before arriving, you’ll probably feel much more prepared than starting everything from zero.

And please don’t spend loads of money on random courses just because someone promises you a UK job. Learn the skill, practise it and try to build something you can actually show.

🎥 I’ve explained this properly in my full YouTube video.

Go to YouTube and search UKSHUKE, you’ll see the full video on my channel.

And after watching, please leave your feedback because it helps me understand what kind of UK content you want next.

🇬🇧 Planning to move from India to the UK soon? Don’t spend all your time only thinking about your visa, university and packing.

There are a few practical skills you can start learning BEFORE you arrive that can make life here much easier.

Some of the things I cover in my full YouTube video:

• Communication and customer service skills
• Excel, Google Sheets and basic office skills
• Sales and people skills
• Retail, hospitality and barista basics
• Digital marketing, SEO, video editing and data analytics
• AI tools for research, presentations, CVs and everyday work
• Building a small portfolio instead of collecting random certificates
• How to actually explain your skills confidently in an interview

One thing I want to make clear…

Learning these skills does not guarantee you a job in the UK.

But if you arrive with some practical experience, confidence and proof that you can actually use the skill, you’ll probably feel much better prepared than starting everything from zero.

If you still have 2 or 3 months before coming to the UK, use that time properly.

🇮🇳 Indian snacks are making their way to UK supermarkets! 🇬🇧

I recently visited Tesco to check out the Diwali offers, and guess what I found? Chitale Bandhu! 😍

For those who don’t know, Chitale Bandhu is a well-known Indian snack brand from Maharashtra, famous for its delicious Bakarwadi and other traditional Indian snacks.

And here’s something interesting! 👇

🇮🇳 Bingebar: Indian namkeen and savoury snacks transformed into convenient, mess-free snack bars!

🌶️ Two flavours: Mumbai Bhel Bar and Indian Spice Bar.

🥨 Bakarwadi: The brand’s famous crispy, spicy Indian snack, packed with traditional flavours.

🛒 Where to find them? Chitale Bandhu products are now available at selected Tesco stores across the UK.

⚠️ Please note: Availability is limited to selected Tesco locations, and stock may vary. Make sure to check with your local Tesco before making a special trip.

It’s always exciting to see familiar Indian brands reaching UK supermarket shelves, especially around Diwali! ❤️

The UK Home Office published seven official factsheets today explaining measures in the Immigration and Asylum Bill 2026, including proposed changes to family life claims, immigration appeals and refugee protection.

1. Proposed changes to family life immigration claims

What changed: The government has provided further details of its proposed reforms to Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which protects private and family life.

The proposals would:

* Normally limit the definition of family life under Article 8 to immediate family members.
* Require Article 8 family life claims made from outside the UK to be submitted by a UK based sponsor.
* Give greater weight to immigration compliance and the public interest when assessing claims.

These are proposals in legislation, not changes already in force.

2. Proposed changes to refugee protection

The bill would introduce a single protection status, replacing the current distinction between refugee status and humanitarian protection.

It would also remove certain appeals seeking to upgrade humanitarian protection to refugee status.

When will these changes take effect?

The Immigration and Asylum Bill was introduced to Parliament on 30 June 2026.

The factsheets were published on 8 October 2026. The measures have not yet been enacted, and no confirmed commencement date is provided in these documents.

Who could be affected?

Primarily people making family or private life immigration claims, asylum applicants, people receiving humanitarian protection, and individuals appealing immigration decisions.

There is no new general Skilled Worker, Graduate Route or ILR qualifying period change in this announcement.

Official sources: Immigration and Asylum Bill 2026 factsheets and Article 8 reform explained by the Home Office.(uk government)

Moving to the UK alone sounds exciting at first… until you realise there are so many things nobody really prepares you for 🇬🇧

New country, new people, new system, managing everything yourself, missing family, figuring out work, money, transport, groceries, paperwork… and sometimes just dealing with the silence after a long day.

I made a full YouTube video sharing the side of moving to the UK alone that people don’t always talk about.

Not to discourage anyone from coming here, but so you can come with more realistic expectations and feel a little more prepared.

🎥 Full video is on YouTube.

Search UKSHUKE and you’ll find it.

Or comment “ALONE” and I’ll send you the full video link in your DM 📩

If you moved to the UK alone, what was the hardest thing for you in the beginning? 👇
