POSTS STORIES REELS

By bringing together the creative communities of The Ulrich Museum of Art and CityArts, U BARE IT creates space for unexpected encounters between artists, audiences, and the stories that connect
us. Everyone has a story, the question is what happens when we share it?

U BARE IT is part of a broader commitment to making art accessible, participatory, and deeply connected to the community. Through this collaboration, the Ulrich and CityArts invite Wichita to encounter art not only as something to observe, but as an opportunity to reflect, connect, and perhaps reveal something unexpected.

Some things are better left unsaid. Others deserve to come into the light.

How much are you willing to bare?

CityArts

Every person carries a private archive: unfinished thoughts, withheld confessions, quiet contradictions, and stories that were never spoken aloud. These fragments live in the margins of our lives, remembered but never shared.

U Bare It is an exhibition of anonymous works built from these hidden narratives. Artists and participants contribute pieces without authorship, allowing the work to exist without identity, reputation, or context. The removal of the artist's name shifts attention toward the emotional truth embedded in the work itself. The work becomes less about who made it and more about what it reveals.

Anonymity transforms the gallery into a collective confessional. A secret written by one person may echo the life of another. What begins as an individual revelation becomes a shared emotional landscape: regret, desire, shame, humor, tenderness, and relief.

The exhibition asks the question:

What happens when art is freed from ownership?

🌾 “Crop Circles.” Shelly titled her scroll Crop Circles as a tribute to her roots in western Kansas and the generations of family history connected to the land. Raised among farming communities where both sides of her family helped cultivate and develop the landscape, she grew up understanding how deeply community and agriculture are connected. Wheat was the crop that surrounded her childhood, and as a fifth-generation Sallee from Liberal, Kansas, those fields became part of how she understands place, identity, and care. She reflects on how communities thrive when the land thrives and how irrigation, growth, and cycles of cultivation became lasting visual and symbolic influences in her life. As an artist, she continues to return to wheat and western Kansas imagery throughout her work, carrying those histories forward. Using colors inspired by wheat and earth, her scroll celebrates heritage, nourishment, and the enduring connection between land, memory, and creativity. #Scrollathon #AmericasCulturalProject #AmericanStorytellers #UniteAmerica 🎶 @caseybrooksthefifth by @ulrichmuseum
