ARCH 409 student visited their sites in New York! Focusing on urban context, the students explored monumental architectural landmarks as well as experience first hand how the city’s urban environment shapes the way people live, move, and interact. by @ulsoad

Summer 2026 Study Abroad Through Tessa & Quin's POV: This past summer has been a life-changing experience for us, because of the study abroad program. From the great food, great company, great staff, and unforgettable memories, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since we've left. One of my favorite parts of this program is the close-knit classroom setting in a place like Italy, where staff from UL and local Italians , like the amazing Thomas Sammons, teach you about deep-rooted history that has been nearly untouched. In a place like this, you feel connected to the history like you are being transported in time. There is architecture like no other and these pictures don't do it justice. Your eyes will never believe you and once you get home you will feel like it was all a dream. I thought I knew what I wanted to do after college, in fact I was set on a plan. However, after this past summer, it has opened my mind to extremely new possibilities. So, this is your sign, sign up! Put down that deposit! And have the summer of your life! It was worth every.single.dime by @ulsoad

The vertical studio presented their urban site plans and massing models of their site! They’ve been working in groups made up of 4th, 3rd, and 2nd years to create sensible space that responds to the existing forces on the site. Good job vertical studio! by @ulsoad

We are proud to announce that Assistant Professor Lucy Satzewich has been selected as a finalist for the James Harrison Steedman Fellowship in Architecture — one of the oldest and most prestigious architecture awards in the United States, now celebrating its 100th year.
The newly increased $100,000 fellowship supports 6–12 months of international travel for architectural research, and is awarded biennially to an emerging architect who has earned an accredited degree within the last eight years. Eight finalists were chosen from a global pool.
Lucy's research centers on how design can make cities, schools, and communities healthier and more equitable — a vision that speaks directly to this year's theme: Collective Form/Forums. We couldn't be more excited to cheer her on as the winner is announced this spring.
