The UL Orchestra recently performed on a beautiful evening in front of Cypress Lake during one of their fall concerts, Candlelit Orchestra. Conducted by Michael Blaney, the student musicians presented “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, written in 1874.

The orchestra members are enrolled in one of two one-credit hour courses (AMUS 190 or AMUS 390) and perform in several concerts throughout the academic year. Students interested in auditioning for the orchestra can contact Mr. Blaney at blaney@louisiana.edu for information.

Thank you to the @upcatul Student Activities Board for organizing such a beautiful event.

Looking ahead to the Spring 2026 semester, the orchestra will perform several times for the public:

Behind the Scenes, For Our Students!

Your SGA has been hard at work turning student feedback into real improvements across campus, and we’re proud to share some recent wins!

30-Minute Parking Expansion
We partnered with Parking & Transportation to add new 30-minute parking near Legacy Apartments, because quick stops should be simple, no matter which side of campus you’re on!

Student Union Furniture Refurbishment
In collaboration with the Student Union, 50 pieces of furniture were refurbished to keep your favorite gathering spaces comfortable and community-centered.

Judice Rickels Bench Upgrade
A four-year goal finally achieved! The new ADA-compliant bench makes this area safe, accessible, and welcoming for all.

Griffin Hall Refresh
Together with Facilities Management, we helped create a brighter, more welcoming building. We targeted the first floor with new paint and restroom upgrades, and we’re just getting started!

Thank you for believing in SGA and trusting us to advocate for your student experience.
Stay tuned, more progress is on the way! taken in University of Louisiana at Lafayette by @ulstudentunion
