Sneak peek into the heart of our work 💛
Huge shoutout to Garrett Bush @garrettbushproductions for capturing what words often can't — the excitement, connection, and love that fuel everything we do.

It’s hard to sum up all the little ways our coaches show up every day — from encouragement on the sidelines to quiet moments of mentorship — but this video shows one thing that’s constantly present and that is joy!

We love what we do. We care deeply for the youth we coach. And we learn just as much as we teach.

💫 Better yet, come visit one of our school sites and feel it for yourself.

Last Wednesday, we welcomed Millennium Middle School for a scrimmage during our Dragons practice! For students who want even more competition, the Dragons Ultimate Club team is open to all levels of middle and high school players in the Bay Area.

Our Dragons did a great job hosting, learning names, and celebrating big plays from both teams. Huge shoutout to our CaL coaches for taking the lead and guiding everyone through the scrimmage!

And a big thank you to Millennium Middle School for bringing great energy, teamwork, and spirit to the field!

It's moments like these that remind us how ultimate brings our community together, both on and off the field! 🐉💚

Ultimate Frisbee is about more than the game.

Earlier this month, Rocky Beach, Executive Director of DCYF grantee Ultimate Impact, joined Morris Knight on Bay Area Cares to talk about how the organization uses sports to help young people build confidence, teamwork, leadership, and community.

Ultimate Impact provides free, long-term programming at more than 35 Title I schools in San Francisco and Oakland, giving young people opportunities to play, learn, belong, and grow.

Rocky Beach has played ultimate for 32 years, including the original Revolver team in 2006. In 2016 Rocky founded Ultimate Impact, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports youth in San Francisco and Oakland. They provide underserved youth with opportunities for personal, professional, and athletic growth by building stable community for families through ultimate. This episode is a great listen for remembering the positive impact sports can have on young people's lives.

No school? Perfect day to play!

We spent our OUSD day off at DeFremery Park for an Oakland Play Day, starting the morning with some Ultimate. Each student picked a skill they wanted to improve, from forehands and throwing deep to catching on the run, and Coach Canning built the session around giving everyone a chance to work toward their goal. We wrapped up with a big game of double box before walking over to Prescott Market for lunch.

When we got back, Patty from @ebchildrenandnature had transformed the park into a nature play station. We built a hut, got creative in the mud kitchen, engineered a waterfall, and, of course, found time for a few more throws.

A big thank you to Coach Simone and Coach Patty for volunteering and helping make the day possible!

Rocky joined Morris Knight on the Bay Area Cares podcast to talk all things Ultimate Impact!

From using Ultimate Frisbee as a tool for youth development to creating spaces where young people can learn, grow, and build confidence, Rocky shares more about the work we do and the community behind it.

For our latest SITBIT (See It To Be IT), our Developing Leaders got a behind-the-scenes look at the world of video production with a visit to Atomic Productions.

Our friends, Executive Producer Danny Angotti and Producer Mike Kerhin took us through the studio, where youth experienced surround sound in the sound design room, watched a preview of an upcoming Oakland sports documentary, and even got to check out some oversized props used to create videos from the perspective of tiny people.

Then it was time to get in front of the camera. GM volunteered for a live interview with Sara and absolutely crushed it, answering questions honestly and confidently for ten minutes with cameras rolling and the entire DL cohort watching. It was a great leadership moment and a reminder that stepping outside your comfort zone is often where growth happens.

We wrapped up the day with lunch and an afternoon throwing clinic led by Adil and Paolo. A full day of learning, leadership, and trying something new.
