The Inaugural Golden Renaissance Scholarship Gala was an unforgettable celebration of educational leadership, community service, and Black excellence. Hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Phi Upsilon Chapter, more than 300 guests gathered in the historic Grand Parisian Ballroom at the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa for a sold-out evening inspired by the Harlem Renaissance.

We proudly honored ten extraordinary leaders whose decades of service have transformed lives throughout Southern California:

Lifetime Achievement Awards: Dr. Judy White, Emmett Terrell, Dr. Norman Towels

Public Servant of the Year: Vernon Jackson
and Bishop Kelvin Simmons

Trailblazer of the Year: Dr. Theresa Price and
Dr. Eric Bishop

Legacy of Impact Awards (Posthumously)
Marion Black Jr. and Reggie Webb

Yellow Rose Award:
Charlotte Black

The evening featured a three-course dining experience, live jazz, tap dance performances, spoken word, a live art exhibition, and a special performance by acclaimed recording artist Tamarra Hicks. Guests arrived dressed in stunning Harlem Renaissance-inspired attire, creating a breathtaking atmosphere of elegance, culture, and pride.

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Phi Upsilon Chapter’s second proclamation of the year from the Office of Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson and the City of Riverside, California, recognizing the Chapter’s continued commitment to educational excellence, community service, and youth empowerment.

Through the generosity of sponsors, donors, and attendees, the Chapter raised more than $50,000 to support its Go-To-High-School, Go-To-College Scholarship Fund. These funds will directly provide scholarships, mentorship, college-readiness support, and educational opportunities for future generations of students.
