After completing a challenging 120km hike through the breathtaking high mountains of Norway, I’d like to share some key takeaways from the journey:

1️⃣ Stay hydrated: To avoid cramps and maintain energy levels, bring electrolytes with you. For every 2 liters of water, add electrolytes to the third liter.

2️⃣ End each day with yoga: Focus on stretching your psoas muscle, IT band, and any hip openers. Key poses? Pigeon, Garland, Triangle, Low Lunge, and Side Lunge.

3️⃣ Prepare your body: Start weight lifting and working on your cardio up to 6 weeks before your trip. It’s also wise to gain a few kilos, as you’ll burn more calories than you can consume on the trail.

What I’ll do differently next time:

1️⃣ Pack smarter: Less is more! Opt for merino wool T-shirts instead of cotton. Wool stays fresher longer.

2️⃣ Bring zip-off trousers: Skip packing separate shorts and pants. Zip-offs are versatile and save space.

3️⃣ Minimize filming equipment: As much as I’d love to channel my inner Wes Anderson, as days went by, getting the perfect shot quickly lost its relevance.

This journey needed time before I could put into words.

I had to let the dust settle before looking back at this one. Only now do I realize the magnitude of what we experienced crossing Hardangervidda in the footsteps of the WWII saboteurs.

Somewhere out there, between whiteouts, blue skies, endless wind, silence, and six days of moving with two days of waiting for the mountain to let us pass, I met a part of myself I hadn’t met before.

Looking back now, this is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever done.

We learned together, struggled together, and kept putting one foot in front of the other through every kind of weather the plateau could throw at us.

What I didn’t know was that I was crossing it with a displaced meniscus. I’d spent the month before mostly in bed, left Bergen limping, and had simply normalized the pain. Not long after reaching the finish, I was rushed into surgery.

10 km before arriving we met a group of war veterans who invited us to spend the night in a cabin. Our first proper shower in what felt like forever.. sharing stories from another lifetime. Had we arrived a day earlier or a day later, we never would have met them.

I’m incredibly grateful to @fjallravenofficial for supporting Nico and I with the best gear we could have asked for. Out there, where small details become big ones, it made all the difference.

If this journey leaves you with anything, I hope it’s the courage to challenge yourself. Not because every challenge ends with a summit or a finish line, but because sometimes the person waiting on the other side is someone you’ve never met before. taken in Hardangervidda National Park by @ulven__
