Erb on the Road 2026 was a huge success! 🙌 This year, we toured southwest Michigan with our first-year Erbers for a deep dive into energy, food, and water systems. Highlights included learning about Kalsec's unique renewable energy partnership with the Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition, the City of Grand Rapids' decades-long commitment to restoring the Grand River, and Invenergy's solar operations in Calhoun County.

Thank you to all of our partners and hosts, and to our MBA/MS students for their energy, thoughtful questions, and good company! by @um_seas

A little foraging magic found its way to campus yesterday. 🍄‍🟫✨

Alexis Nikole Nelson (aka @blackforager) spent the day wandering the woods with SEAS PhD student and soil scientist Will Brinkerhoff (@willbrinkerhoff), meeting with U-M students, and sharing stories with the Ann Arbor community.

We’ll spore you all the details, but needless to say, it was a magical day! Alexis and Will seated on the Rackham stage. Behind them, a screen displays an image of two mushrooms with the caption "One is POISON and one is SNACK." by @um_seas

We didn’t think Maitake season could get any better until Alexis Nikole Nelson herself visited! Nelson, aka Black Forager, is an award-winning forager, outdoor educator, and James Beard Award winner who has been educating the internet about foraging and cooking wild food (often with a song or dance to go along) since 2020. Yesterday, we were honored to cohost an evening with Alexis Nicole Nelson, where she shared a wide range of stories and insights, from her childhood spent foraging wild foods with her mom to the importance of being in relationship with plants, and a speed round of the audience favorite, “is it poison or is it a snack,” replete with a live rendition of the song and dance. She was even more inspiring, insightful, and wildly funny than she is on the screen. Thank you, @blackforager, for a delightful visit. by @um_seas

A historic moment for the Erb Institute community! 🌟

We’re thrilled to announce a $4.9 million grant from the Fred and Barbara Erb Family Foundation to establish the Erb Legacy Scholarship!

Pursuing dual MBA/MS degrees through @michiganross and @um_seas is a huge commitment. This investment will expand access and financial support for our students, lowering barriers and helping us support the next generation of sustainability leaders.

Thank you to the Erb Family Foundation for 30 years of unwavering support and continuing to invest in our students’ power to change the world. 〽️💙
