Let me show you one of my treasures ✨

I bought the CD on release day, and the vinyl arrived a little later 😌 One of those albums you simply have to own in physical form.

We all know it was objectively the album of the year in 2025. And I still think it’s the album of the decade. It’s also one of the things that inspired me to pursue studying Spanish.

I’ve already spent enough words to explain its beauty (especially if you’re a real-life friend 😂), so I won’t indulge any longer.

It’s simply a pleasure to listen to, and I’ll never get tired of this one ✨

Undiscovered Japan 🇯🇵
Tohoku edition - Because “Nobody goes to Tohoku.”

That might be a slight exaggeration… but compared with Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, Tohoku is still seriously overlooked. I’m on a mission to convince people to get curious about all of Japan, not just the usual hot spots.

♨️ Ginzan Onsen
This little hot-spring town dates back to around 1600, when it grew around a booming silver mine. Today it looks like something straight out of a movie, with its 1920s wooden ryokan lining the river. Hard to stay overnight, but absolutely worth the effort.

💧 Lake Tazawa
Crystal-clear, ridiculously blue and Japan’s deepest lake. The water changes colour with the light, and the little red torii on the shore makes the whole thing feel like a painting.

🌲 Matsushima Bay
One of Japan’s three great scenic spots, with around 260 pine-covered islands scattered across the bay. It’s the kind of place that makes you understand why Japan’s landscapes are so special.

⛰️ Risshakuji / Yamadera
1,015 steps but the mountain views at the top make you forget the suffering pretty quickly. This is also where Matsuo Bashō found inspiration for one of his most famous haiku, written here in 1689:

Shizukasa ya
Iwa ni shimiiru
Semi no koe

“Such stillness
the cries of the cicadas
sink into the rocks.”

🍜 Morioka
Often overlooked, but absolutely worth a stop. Beautiful temples, a lovely old-town feel and, most importantly, the wanko soba challenge. Tiny bowls of soba keep coming until you surrender. About 15 bowls is roughly one normal serving.. I managed 60 😬

🏯 Kakunodate
One of my favourite stops in Akita. The beautifully preserved samurai district still feels wonderfully old Japan, with traditional residences lining taken in Tohoku by @umby_chan
