If you’re curious about the Free Store, this is the post for you! We are a donation-based store open to all students on the Duluth campus. The store is located in Chem 213 (near the large Chem 200 lecture hall). Stopping by and picking up items you need, or dropping off donations is a great way to interact with sustainability on campus. If there are any more questions about the store, feel free to leave them below!

What’s spookier than Halloween? 🎃 Pollution in our lakes & streams of course! 🌊 🙀

👻 This fall, remember to keep your trashcan upright with the lid closed! If your cans are overflowing, they could tip & spill trash all over the street & surrounding area. If trash is on the street, it’ll end up in our streams!

💀 When raking or blowing fall leaves, remember to keep them away from the street. 🍁 After it rains, any leaves on the street may be washed into storm drains or ditches, & right into our water making it murky & polluted.

🎃 Remember to wash your car over grass & away from the street! Better yet, take your car to a car wash where they treat & recycle that poisonous wash water!

This past week we sent students to the Upper Midwest Association for Colligate Sustainability Conference (@umacs_highered) in St Cloud, MN! We were able to have 3 of our student staff members (Katlyn Dexter, Lillian Campbell, and Vivienne Tabor) present on their on campus sustainability initiatives. Other student staff from our office were able to go and learn about sustainability on other college campuses in the Midwest. Overall, it was a great time for everyone involved!

Our campus really is greener than most. 🌳🍃
From acres of pollinator gardens to stormwater features that help protect our trout streams, UMD is leading the way in campus sustainability.

We’re also among the first higher education institutions to create a seamless, integrated Campus and Climate Action Plans — bringing our environmental goals together to build a healthier, more resilient campus for everyone. taken in University of Minnesota Duluth by @umdsustain

Don’t be a chump…be a champ! Compost on campus!

What is compostable on campus? Pretty much anything from the coffee shop, food court, or dining center. They might look like plastic, but they are actually made with plant proteins. All food scraps are also compostable. Next time you’re eating at the food court, coffee shop, or dining center; make sure to compost your utensils, cups, boxes, and food scraps!

It’s that time of the year again! 🍂🍁

Follow these Fall Pro Tips to keep your yard & streams clean this season.

While raking or blowing leaves this fall, make sure they do not end up in the street! 🙀 If they do, they could clog storm drains, or cause water quality problems in local streams and Lake Superior. 🌊

WLSSD & Superior Landfill will take bagged yard waste to compost for FREE ‼️
Thank you for being the solution to stormwater pollution. 💙

Starting the semester by putting down roots! During Welcome Week, our incoming undergraduate students came together to volunteer, plant trees, give back to the campus community, and even name their newly planted tree. 🌳 taken in University of Minnesota Duluth by @umdsustain
