🌱🧱 Exploring the Marvels of Microalgae: The Concrete Healer

Imagine if concrete could heal its own cracks! 🤯

This project uses tiny blue-green microalgae to help concrete naturally repair small cracks. These microalgae produce a mineral that fills the cracks, making concrete stronger and helping it last longer.
Even better, the leftover microalgae can replace part of the cement used in concrete. Less cement means lower carbon emissions and a greener way to build.

💚 Stronger buildings.

UM BREAKS INTO GLOBAL TOP 200 IN TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2027, A FIRST EVER FOR MALAYSIA

Universiti Malaya (UM) has entered the global Top 200 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, rising to 194th in the world and becoming the first Malaysian university to reach the Top 200 in the ranking.

The milestone marks a significant rise in UM’s global standing. From the 351–400 band in THE World University Rankings 2023, the University has climbed to 194th in the 2027 edition, reflecting sustained progress across research, teaching, international engagement and industry collaboration.

THE WUR is a research intensive university ranking system which measures university performance across five (5) pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook. Among UM’s strongest areas in the 2027 rankings are International Outlook and Research Quality, reflecting the University’s expanding global academic network, international community and growing research influence.

UM’s performance in International Outlook reflects its increasingly global academic environment and extensive international collaborations, as the University continues to attract students, researchers and scholars from around the world. Its performance in Research Quality, meanwhile, underscores the reach and influence of research produced by UM scholars, including citation impact and the broader strength of the University’s research output.

Together with its performance across Teaching, Research Environment and Industry, these results demonstrate UM’s development as a comprehensive research university with an increasingly strong global presence.

As URIIS 2026 concludes, we celebrate three impactful days of research, innovation, investment, and collaboration.

The summit concluded with a Closing Ceremony officiated by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry bin Abdul Kadir.

Throughout the three-day summit, URIIS 2026 recorded:
