Today makes 6 years a successful defense.

But what’s more important to me is that when my ‘photos’ memories brought this to the forefront, I had never seen it. No clue who recorded it. However, what I do recall, as I listened to my voice, was every ‘ummm’ & every stutter was evidence of the battle occurring in my mind, as I fought to get to the end.

I was literally trying to answer the question asked while hushing 12 years of doubt spewed by others. And what made it worse?? Their doubt had taken on my internal voice… Annnd I got heavy ADHD! 🤦🏾‍♀️ 😹 Oh nigga! We was at war in ZEB, room 325! But what wasn’t about to happen was letting naysayers win— cuz we had shyt to do. Things I ain’t even thought of as yet were depending on my ability to ignore the noise in that very moment.

To those on the doctorate journey at present— know that you can. Even if all you do today is rearrange one sentence — you’re one step closer. Keep pushing. Besos 😘 y abrazos 🫂 #BlackDocMade taken in Florida International University by @unapologetic4

Some of y’all thought I was on #HBCUHomecomingTour2023 cuz it’s fun… And that’s absolutely a reason 😹 lol— but it’s secondary. My primary reason is to keep the content fresh for the online course I created👉🏾 #PalanteCourse

The course empowers prospective undergraduate students to independently navigate the
financial, social/emotional, and academic aspects of pursuing their first four-year #HBCU degree. #HBCUs #HBCUsMatter #HBCUPalante #HBCUGrad

There was pride everywhere. You could feel how much GramFam loves Grambling, its traditions, and each other. That’s one of my favorite parts of this tour: every HBCU has its own personality, and Grambling definitely has one of its own.

The energy, the pride, the traditions — Grambling showed up in every way. And just like that, it turned into two HBCU Homecomings in one weekend. 😏

Fun fact: Grambling’s legendary World Famed Tiger Marching Band started in 1926 with just 17 instruments purchased from Sears & Roebuck — and there wasn’t even a music department yet! A century later, the band is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026. 🥁🐯

Another HBCU Homecoming in the books. Grambling, I’m glad I got to experience you for myself. 💙

The music was going, folks were dancing, and before I knew it, I was right there in the middle of it — laughing, moving, and cutting up with people I had just met. 💙💛 That was Southern University and A&M College for me.

No introductions needed. No overthinking it. Just good people, good energy, and pure, unfiltered Black joy. Those spontaneous moments — when you stop documenting the Tour and simply start living it — have become some of my favorites.

Fun fact: Southern University actually began in New Orleans in 1880 with just 12 students before moving to Baton Rouge in 1914. When the new campus opened, only one building was habitable — today known as the Little White House — and it served as everything from the president’s residence and administrative offices to a dining hall, infirmary, and social center.

I came to Southern to capture a piece of HBCU culture. Instead, Southern reminded me that some of the best parts of our culture aren’t meant to be captured — they’re meant to be lived. 💙💛

One of my favorite parts of HBCU homecoming tour is seeing my far away faves! #impromptu #fotoshoot After a layover from hell, followed by a 4 hour drive, I was type elated to see this familiar face 🫶🏾💙 #dopeassday #HBCUHomecomingTour2026 #HBCUPalante by @unapologetic4
