Helping women stop shrinking & start shining ✨
Midlife • MidSize • Menopause
Style • Confidence • Gen X humor
Because shrinking was never the answer!
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
For years, I thought I needed to feel confident before I could let myself be seen.

But perfectionism has a sneaky way of turning into social paralysis. You overthink the angle, the words, how you look, and what people might think until you never share anything at all.

So here I am, practicing on camera for UGC, sharing more of my clothes and everyday life, and learning to be okay with making mistakes or looking a little silly.

Because confidence doesn’t always come before you show up.

Sometimes it grows because you showed up anyway.

And I may or may not share some of the bloopers that didn’t make the cut in a future post. 🤪

Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸 God Bless America!

One of the greatest gifts of midlife has been learning that I no longer need permission.

I don’t need permission to love my body.
I don’t need permission to love my country.
I don’t need permission to love God.

There was a time when I handed my self-worth over to the opinions of other people.

Too big.
Too loud.
Too conservative.
Too patriotic.
Too much.

For years, body dysmorphia made me see flaws that felt bigger than reality. I believed confidence belonged to women with different bodies.

I was wrong.

Midlife has taught me something freeing:

My value was never determined by a number on a scale, strangers on the internet, or society’s approval.

I’m learning to see myself the way my Creator has always seen me—with dignity, purpose, and worth.

So today I choose:
• Gratitude over criticism.
• Freedom over fear.
• Confidence over comparison.

Because freedom isn’t just something we celebrate as a nation. Sometimes it’s something we discover within ourselves.

Me preparing for my next appointment with the primary care provider I felt wasn’t taking my recurring UTIs seriously… after ending up hospitalized with sepsis. 🤪

Lord, help me choose my words. Because I have notes. 😂

I’m finding some humor in it now, but feeling unheard while I was getting sicker was scary. I’m grateful I finally got the care I needed and a team that listened.

I’ll be bringing my discharge paperwork, my questions, and whatever patience I have left. by @unbreakable.blonde

Well, this wasn’t exactly on my calendar for the week. 🥴

After months of recurring UTIs, fevers, chills, and trying to get answers, I ended up in the hospital with a kidney infection.

Not exactly the kind of break I was hoping for. 😂

But there’s something I really want to share about this experience.

For months, I felt like my concerns weren’t being taken seriously. I knew something wasn’t right, but getting answers was frustrating.

And unfortunately, I know I’m not the only woman who’s experienced that.

Especially in midlife, when so many of us are already navigating changes in our bodies and trying to find healthcare providers who actually listen.

But here’s where my story takes a more hopeful turn.

I’ve had some wonderful conversations with the nurses and doctors here. Conversations about women’s healthcare, the gaps that still exist, and how much better we need to do.

And hearing medical professionals openly acknowledge those things?

It was incredibly refreshing.

I’m especially grateful for a wonderful urologist who listened, took my concerns seriously, and is helping me move toward answers.

Despite a rough night, a lot was accomplished. And I’m finally feeling hopeful about getting better. ❤️

If there’s one thing I hope another woman takes away from this, it’s this:

You are allowed to ask questions. You are allowed to seek another opinion. And you are allowed to keep advocating for yourself when something doesn’t feel right.

We shouldn’t have to fight to be heard.

And to the healthcare professionals who genuinely listen and advocate for their patients, thank you. You make a bigger difference than you probably realize.

There was a time when someone criticizing my body, my clothes, my age, or simply the way I showed up could completely change how I saw myself.

I gave other people’s opinions way too much authority.

And I know I’m not the only woman who has done that.

One thing I’ve learned in midlife:

You can disagree with another woman.
You can have different tastes.
You can live completely different lives.

But you don’t have to make her feel small to feel better about yourself.

And when someone tries to hand you their criticism, judgment, or bitterness?

You don’t have to pick it up.

As Maya Angelou would say, I’m not in it.

Their bitterness does not belong to me.
And yours doesn’t belong to you either.

At 54, I’d much rather be the woman straightening another woman’s crown than the one looking for a reason to knock it crooked. 👑

Wear the shirt.
Post the picture.
Take up some space.
Let yourself be seen.

Someone else’s criticism does not have to become your inner voice.

Maybe that’s one of the best parts of getting older.

You finally realize that not every opinion deserves a place in your head. ✌️ by @unbreakable.blonde

I’m ready to lose weight…

The weight of other people’s opinions.

The comments about my body.
The rules about dressing my age.
The worry that someone might think, “Who does she think she is?”

I’ve carried enough of that into dressing rooms, family gatherings, and moments I should have been enjoying.

I’m still learning to put it down. To wear what I like without preparing a defense. To let myself enjoy a photo without looking for what someone else might criticize.

If you’ve been carrying that weight too, you’re allowed to set it down.

You don’t need everyone’s approval to feel good in your own skin. ❤️ by @unbreakable.blonde

Some versions of us were built for survival.

The people pleaser.
The over-explainer.
The woman who stayed quiet to keep the peace.
The woman who worried that having boundaries would disappoint someone.

You can be grateful for the woman who got you here and still decide she doesn’t have to take you where you’re going.

You’re allowed to outgrow her. 🤍 by @unbreakable.blonde

I think being an introvert has been one of the most misunderstood parts of my personality.

I genuinely like people. I can be social, outgoing and talk to just about anyone.

But I’ve also always been perfectly happy not being part of a big group.

For a long time, I think people mistook that for being shy, antisocial, aloof or even insecure.

It wasn’t.

I just never needed a room full of people around me to feel like I belonged.

There’s a strength in being comfortable with your own company. In knowing who you are without needing constant attention, approval or an invitation to feel included.

I’m still an introvert.

I just understand her a whole lot better now. 🤍 by @unbreakable.blonde

Proof that I occasionally leave my quiet little corner of the world and go ‘people.’ 😂🐝

Spent the day at the Honeybee Festival with Back InBalance, and it was actually so nice to get out, socialize, see familiar faces and meet some new ones.

The funny thing about me is that I genuinely LOVE people. I love talking and laughing and connecting with people.

I’m also an introvert. 😂

So I can happily socialize all day and then need to disappear into my house afterward to recover.

Very thankful for my son who came along to help his mama, too. 💜

Keeping it real:

Picking apart another woman
won’t make you feel better
about yourself.

I’d actually stop there. Don’t soften it with another line. It’s short, true to your women-supporting-women theme, and has just enough edge without sounding preachy.

Use the coffee photo. Your expression gives it a slightly knowing “we both know this is true” feel. ☕️

For the caption, you could go a little deeper:

Somewhere along the way, women learned to look at each other and immediately start evaluating.

Her body.
Her face.
Her clothes.
Her weight.
How she’s aging.
What she “should” or “shouldn’t” be wearing.

But tearing another woman apart has never made us more beautiful, more confident, or more secure.

There’s room for her to feel beautiful.
There’s room for you to feel beautiful too.

Straighten crowns. Don’t knock them off. 👑 by @unbreakable.blonde
