The hair on his head was as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters taken in SSUR by @uncle_ssur

NEW UPLOAD: SSUR Timeline

“The SSUR nation was born in Coney Island, 1969, with the birth of fine artist Ruslan (Russ) Kalabin. Ruslan’s bold sharp lines conveyed a rich mix of pop and political influences and he soon made a name for himself in the New York Gallery scene. In 1996 Ruslan began collaborating with fellow graphic artist/clothing designer Kevin Lyons and the graphics ranging from reggea, apes, kung-fu to communists began showing up in an increasingly broad line of clothing under the SSUR logo. Now with Ruslan and Kevinls launch of the new Natural Born line, the production has grown to include throw pillows, turntable covers. 3D gift packs and and all kinds of other crazy gear. Their built in subversive style keeps the line underground and difficult to find but you can get yours at the SSUR store on Mulberry St. in NYC, Union in LA, or MILLION AIR store in Shibuya.” (Excerpt from Tokion May 2000)

‘Radical Chic’ - Ruslan Karablin of SSUR.

“In the year 2673, when apes take over the world once and for all, they may visit the remains of New York City’s Little Italy and gaze with wonder at the artifacts left behind by Russian-born artist/clothing designer Ruslan Karablin. SSUR, his line of embroidered and silk-screened T-shirts, sweatshirts, and pillows, reflects his unusual back-ground. At age five he fled the Soviet Union with his mother and settled in Coney Island, New York, in the shadows of the famed Cyclone ride. Now 29, Karablin has amassed a prolific oeuvre that taps into his childhood fascination with American pop stalwarts such as Star Wars, Bruce Lee, mobsters, and yes, Planet of the Apes, along with his own experience with communist rule. Fusing military chic with pop icons, for instance, he hand-makes such novelties as G.I. Ape action figures and a Che Ape poster. Karablin, who sells his wares through a global network of select boutiques, says he lives by the credo ‘positive energy activates constant elevation.’ Hopefully, the apes—when they come—will be flattered.”
