“We won’t stop singing when the lights go out”

This song was originally born in the wake of profound personal tragedy. Brenton Brown’s family had lost everything they owned in a wildfire that destroyed their home. Whilst living in the midst of the ashes and rubble, Brenton began to sing and wrote these words inspired by Psalm 34 “your love is an army fighting by my side… hallelujah Jesus saves”…

This weekend, David’s Tent @davids_tent gathered thousands from across the body of Christ for another 72 hours of non-stop worship. At the end of the final session the power and lights cut out but the people just kept singing. It felt like a picture of a people who are learning how to defiantly lift up praise. A people who know that God is worthy at all times, in all places, and in all circumstances.

HALLELUJAH JESUS SAVES | Studio Version Out Now | KXC x Brenton Brown + Megan Cockram

The song has become an anthem for our church but it was originally born out of profound personal loss. Brenton Brown began writing the chorus while he and his family were recovering from a devastating wildfire that destroyed their home in 2018. Living without electricity or running water, they experienced both the generosity of those around them and the unmistakable faithfulness of God. In the middle of unimaginable circumstances, the words of Psalm 34 became a living reality: “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”

The song was later finished alongside Nick Herbert, Bekah Spencer, and Rich Dicas, capturing a message that resonates with anyone who has faced suffering, uncertainty, or loss. Rather than ignoring life’s pain, Hallelujah Jesus Saves boldly proclaims that even in our darkest moments, Jesus remains our hope, our rescuer, and our salvation.
