The argument of pay for play sports vs. high school sports is often a hot topic in the recruiting world. And while there are certainly cases where club has a substantial benefit for an athlete’s next level aspirations, the importance of high school sports and the relationship building between high school coaches and recruiters is as vital as ever.

With pay for play travel sports, it’s a money grab. So long as the money gets paid, that’s typically all that matters. There are no grade checks. No academic requirement enforcement. No school or community buy-in.

This leads to that change in the landscape of recruiting that we have been talking about. Sure, club sports are a great asset. There is nothing wrong with them. We are as supportive of club sports and personal trainers as we can be. We just emphasize that a large factor, a large key to college recruiting is being a qualifiable athlete. And with that comes qualifiable academics, coachability and accountability.

So we went to the drawing board and compiled a detailed list of questions that CURRENT high school coaches are being asked ask college recruiters have made their spring rounds. If you ever wanted the cheat sheet on what needs to be focused on outside of general athletic ability, you will not find a more detailed baseline.

If you have questions on any slides, DM us. If you are interested in pursuing the next level in college athletics, reach out to us and set up a free consultation. We will open the honest conversation of creating a recruiting path that is tailored to your talents in hopes to give you the best chance to be seen.

𝐖𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐃.

This has been something that has been talked about for far too long. How do we change the landscape of current state of sports, high school sports, college recruiting, etc.

In the age of NIL, transfer portals and transfer rules, the water is muddy. Coaches everywhere are frustrated with players lack of knowledge of the game, general IQ and overall technique. Players and parents want more out of their coaching staffs and their experiences. Youth coaches, travel ball clubs, pay for play...it’s overwhelming.

How do we get back to where it all began? The love of the game. Doing things the right way. Over the course of our time together, we will examine all aspects of athletics, how it affects athletes and how we can better create servant leaders. We will deep dive in things like mental health, motivation and faith.

Join us on the journey and be sure to let us know if you have questions you want us to answer. We will be happy to do so!

𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐃, 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐆𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐍.

This kid is the picture of perseverance. She puts her head down and goes to work, day in and day out, doing exactly what is asked of her and far beyond it.

A phenomenal student, exceptional talent but even better human being. She is humble but never backs down.

Congratulations to 2024 athlete Morgan Avila on being named to the All-America Lacrosse Southwest Highlight Team. She continues to break down any door that’s closed and lets the world know who she is.

No matter how high the mountain is, keep climbing, Morg. The best is yet to come.

I could talk about this subject forever. But I’m going to opt to keep it simple:

You will earn far more opportunities doing things the right way, than trying to do them your way.

This is your chance to listen and apply. And if you do not apply this concept, the one of doing things the right way and being an unselfish, team first, hardworker, the only person you will have to blame for your lack of opportunities is you.

You control two things: your attitude and your effort. And those two things tell a whole lot about your character.

What will it be?

SOPHOMORE CAMPAIGN SECURED

Back to back League MVP, @CHSAA All-Colorado, league stats leader, single-season team record breaker…to say Morgan Avila brought the fire this spring would be an understatement.

In just her second year with Pueblo West Lacrosse, Morgan and her team found themselves with their first playoff appearance and first playoff win with a program best record since the Pueblo West Lacrosse Co-Op was formed.

As we move into the summer, Morgan is going rack up a lot of air miles as she is set to travel all over the country to compete against the nation’s elite prospects and attend prospect camps of some of the nation’s top D1 programs.

We are incredibly proud of the season Morgan and her team put together and we look forward to her continued success as she navigates a huge junior summer.

The difference in the success and failures of last season and what lies ahead of you is directly tied to what you do this summer.

Are you the first person to summer workouts and the last to leave? Are you attending all practices? Are you maximizing your reps? Are you seeking help from your coaches on perfecting skills? ARE YOU IMMITATING REPS AND TAKING MENTAL REPS BETWEEN DRILLS OR ARE YOU TALKING IN LINE TO YOUR FRIENDS?

The summer will expose the common come fall.

If the success of that moment is a direct reflection of your last practice or training session, how does that moment go for you?

Did you prepare enough to win the moment?

𝘃𝗮𝗹·𝘂·𝗮·𝗯𝗹𝗲
/ˈ𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙮(𝙤͞𝙤)ə𝙗(ə)𝙡/
(𝙣.) something that is of great worth or significance to a greater purpose.

This is a lifetime of work. This is late nights, early mornings and a grind no one saw. This is taking a leap and walking away from the comfortable. This is fully buying into the new school, programs and communities she became a part of. This is the successes, and the failures. This is the adversities and the triumphs.

This is everything, all rolled into one. This is the 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚. The chapter was always going to close at some point, but what an ending to the story she wrote.

Congratulations to Madi Reardon (@madi.reardon) for capping off her career as South Central League MVP. Cannot wait to see what you bring to FLC, kid.

There is no shortcut. The process takes time. And it requires you to excel in all aspects of the journey. Sure, there will be failure, but it’s the adaptation to those adversities that show your true character.

It’s not enough just to be talented, with talent, you have to qualify academically. It’s not enough to be talented and academically qualified, you have to bring substance to the table.

Work ethic, discipline, character, these are just a few of the stepping stones and let me tell you, it’s hard. It’s not easy. Because once you get there you have to stay there.

No one can do it for you. But if you want it, you’ll do all of it, not just some of it.

Morgan Avila (@morgs_lax) is an absolute stud. The class of 2024 Pueblo County/Pueblo West Lacrosse sophomore and her club are down to the wire, as they’ve advanced to the second round of the @CHSAA 4A State Playoffs.

The tough as nails UA150, Atheletes Unlimited Futures Team selection is headed into what will be a jam packed summer. I could not be more excited for what what is to come when coaches can fully begin to build relationships with her this coming year.
