Version 2 of #MMWillow pattern just released by @morgenstund_making. I used this deliriously cheerful Luminous Linen in Yuzu from @fluidplusdrape for a bright, fun, and funky skirt 💖💛💖. It looks like this colorway is sold out on the site, so I’m quite pleased I picked some up before it disappeared.

Same sizing and alterations as version 1 - size 6 at the waist grades to 5 at the hips. 2.5 inches added to the skirt length, though I forgot to add length to the slit cover this time around.

Buttons are from @saltlakesewciety - always a great selection. Check out how utterly adorable the top 🤍 button is! I may need to add a couple extra buttons at the bottom, as the thigh slit on this one sits precariously high, and the wrong gust of wind threatens to end in a mortifying flashing incident 😳.

I really love how this #MMWillow turned out, and have already worn it 4 times since finishing it a week ago. All its needs is a basic black camisole, a lil bling bling, and it transforms in an effortlessly chic and cool fit. Also fantastic for #dopaminedressing.

Wow, what an honor it was to test this incredible design #MMWillow by @morgenstund_making. As soon as I saw the tester call with the sample images, I leapt to apply. I mean. C’mon. A stunning and insanely flattering silhouette with its midi length, slight flare, and the partially buttoned THIGH SLIT. I love a good thigh slit, and the addition of the buttons lends to the creative opportunities in making the skirt, plus it allows for wearer’s choice in having some modesty by buttoning all buttons or get a little cheekier by leaving some buttons undone. I also really love the partially elasticated waistband because ~~comfort matters~~. It also came together very quickly and was so satisfying to sew.

I made 2 versions of the skirt - this is my wearable toile. Version 2 will be posted separately. I could honestly see myself making more versions of the Willow for my wardrobe - that’s how much I love this design and how versatile and practical it is. One for every season and beyond ☀️🍁❄️🌷✨✨✨

I made this in a size 6 at the waist graded to 5 at the hips, and added 2.5 in length to the skirt and 1.25 in to the slit cover for #sewingtall. This is a grey linen from @fabricsstorecom I’ve had in my stash for quite a while. Buttons are two alternating from my stash - a shiny heart buttoned alternating with a clear & black flower design button.

I had my eye on this combination of @blackbirdfabrics comfy cotton rib knits in Butter and Lilac for a good while, and added them to my cart when I bought some denim for another project I’ve got going. Fortuitous timing, as I no longer see these colors on their site. I envisioned some kind of cropped tank with a pencil skirt or mini skirt, and ended up finding the perfect combo with the @mimigstyle #s3010 pattern from @simplicity_creative_group. There’s also a cardigan pattern that comes with the set, but it’s August in the high desert, so I passed on making that for now. The skirt pattern has a slit, but I deepened it *quite* a bit for some serious va-va-voom energy. Honestly, a bit more than planned 😳, but you only live once, right?

I made a size 14 with 3 inches of length added to the skirt and 2 inches to the top for #sewingtall. Weirdly, both the top and skirt were HUGE on me, so I ended up shaving about 2 inches off the side seams of the top and 3 inches off the sides of the skirt with my serger. This caused the hem to become a bit asymmetrical, but I’m not bothered by it. Perhaps, I just need to size down a couple sizes with this rib knit fabric? It worked out okay in the end. Cute and spicy 🌶️ , as intended.

The pattern also had separate YouTube tutorials for the top, skirt, and cardigan, which were SUPER helpful as some of the steps/images in the paper instructions just weren’t clicking for me. Definitely could see myself making this pattern again and trying out the cardigan because I have like 3 cardigans and they’re all statement pieces 🙃.

Some @helens__closet #Winslowculottes that have been in the works for a few months due to some mysterious fit issues. Somehow the waistband was too small and pants wayyyyy too big, so I’m guessing I cut sizes out wrong or perhaps cut the pattern before I had some changes in my measurements. Fixed by lengthening the waistband and adding pleats to the back and we are GOOD.

I set out to make these as a non-boring pant that could pass as business casual with a bit of bold elegance in the mix. I think I achieved my goal.

This was actually a super quick and easy pattern to crank out with such a swishy, sophisticated silhouette as the end result. Great instructions, which is standard for Helen’s Closet patterns. I look forward to wearing these for work trips instead of bland neutral slacks. I do really need to beef up my business casual wardrobe with more me-mades that fit the criteria while still being creative, but there are just too many “fun” projects occupying my brain space.

Fabric is a Lyocell Jacquard from @lyricalfabrics I purchased in 2024. It’s a beautiful mustard yellow with a floral motif and some real heft to it. I thought I cut out a size 10, but who really knows. Added 3” to the length of the pants for #sewingtall.

Ugh, these PANTS. The @kelseymariewhite #pennypantspattern in @fableism Checkmate Ametrine. I have been wearing them nearly daily because they are so damn comfy and cute. My neighbors have caught many, many glimpses of them whilst taking my dog for his strolls around the block. Between Kelsey’s understated barrel leg design with thoughtful, unique details like the knee and ankle darts, a high rise waist, and ankle length hem, and the @Fableism Checkmates fabric that has a soft but substantial weight for maximum coziness and cute AF checkered pattern, here in my fave shade of lilac purple juxtaposed with mustard yellow, the design and fabric lend perfectly to each other for maximum comfort and style. Oh, and the pockets!! Gloriously deep inseam pockets you can stuff full of sewing tools and notions, dog treats, children’s toys, movie theater snacks, all of the above…whatever your pocket needs may be. Plus back pockets for practical things like your phone and keys and so forth.

I made a size 12 with 1” added to the rise and 3” added to the inseam for #sewingtall. I think the adjustments resulted in an appropriate fit.

I had enough fabric left over to make *part* of a coordinating top, so I made the sarakirsten #morningglorytop paired with some thrifted lace that, admittedly, is not strong and became a bit tattered during sewing and fitting. I may try to mend at some point or just accept the situation as it is. I also added 2” to the bottom of the front pieces of the morning glory top to make sure I would be covered.

Honestly, I’m pretty ambivalent about how the top turned out and I can’t pin down exactly WHY. Maybe I should have lengthened the front pieces more, maybe it doesn’t work well on small busts, maybe it’s because the colors of the fabric, much as I love them, wash me out, maybe I should have extended the front ties to wrap around in the back for more coverage, maybe it would have looked better if I had enough fabric to make the entire top out of the checkmates fabric…In any case, it may not get much wear, sadly. At least the pants will. 💜💛💜💛 by @under_presser

A very cherry summery set that turned out soooooo cute! This is McCall’s #M7962. This set was a LONG time in the making. I started it last summer as the sample project for a mid-level sewing class I was taking. I finished the culottes at the end of the summer, then got the muslin for the top done but started an advanced sewing class that lasted until December. Start working on the top again, but corset making class started beginning of February. Finished the corset in April, back to the top, but kept running into major mistakes and had to redo things. FINALLY finish in early June, excitedly try on the set, and it’s way too big 😫 because I apparently lost weight. Had to have my sewing teacher help me take in the culottes and top, but that was relatively painless and quick, thank goodness. And here we are! I tell you, it has been a sewing saga.

Fabric is an adorable cherry printed denim with a bit of stretch from the sadly shuttered Joann’s. I’m so glad I picked up a heap of this fabric before she went under. My sewing teacher happened to have this absolutely ***perfect*** red lining for under the frills (I’m not sure the correct term for them) and red lace that she knife pleated like a machine for me to add to the frills (she is seriously THE BEST). And it all came together so, so beautifully, if I do say so myself.

I have gleefully worn this set around a few times as my celebration of summer, a season of which I am generally not fond. The only sort of issue is zipping myself into and out of the top. It involves bending and contorting and wriggling and grunting and things that no one but my dog should witness, but it is POSSIBLE, and that’s all that matters!

Not sure if it’s really that obvious, but I paired my cherry set with a cherry hair clip from @jennylemons that is absolute perfection. Gimme all that cherry lovin’. by @under_presser

I’ve admired and owned this pattern #picnicsetpattern by @cayden.naughton for probably close to two years now, but just finally got around to making it. And dear lord am I in love with the outcome. I TOTALLY understand the fandom of the @cayden.naughton Picnic Set now, and am glad to be part of it. I’ve already had countless people tell me it’s the cutest thing they’ve ever seen and absolutely lose their minds when I show them the bloomers underneath. Cayden really made a summer-perfect one-of-a-kind pattern with this one.

I made a size 6 in View C (gimme all the ruffles) and added an inch to the dress top and an inch to the rise of the bloomers as minor height alterations for my 5’11” frame. I never have to modify much with her patterns as we are both tall and long torso-ed, which makes for a quicker prep process. This whole outfit came together in a breeze, aside from a lot of pulling elastic through channels with safety pins, but that’s easy to do on the couch while snuggling with my furball main squeeze, Earl. The instructions were fantastic as always, no guessing through steps.

Let’s talk fabric. Part of the reason I waited on making this pattern for so long was that I wanted to find the perfect fabric that was cottage core-y in a your-grandma’s-aging-wallpaper -but-better way. And I finally found it with this absolutely stunning Swiss dot cotton lawn with the delicate, gorgeous butter yellow and pink stripes and adorable teensy lil floral bouquets, elevated by the luscious, variated texture of the Swiss dots. This was an Etsy find that I hoped would look as good as in the pictures, and it definitely delivered. I ended up using ribbon for the ties instead of making the ties from the fabric itself. I attempted to make the fabric ties, but loop turners and I have not figured out how to get along yet 😒. I had this gorgeous silk satin pink ribbon from @saltlakesewciety in my stash that I like SO much better than I would’ve liked the ties, anyway, so the battle of Michelle vs. loop turners shall resume another day.

I’ll unquestionably be wearing this in heavy rotation all summer long.

THE elite summer dress I’m now convinced is the #collinsdress by @fridaypatterncompany. This divine, figure-flatting number only consists of 4 pieces, including a shelf bra, so it comes together from cutting the fabric to sewing the hem in an easy, breezy afternoon.

I opted to use clear elastic to stabilize the shoulder and neckline seams. I made a size Large with 5 inches of length added for #sewingtall.

But, let’s talk about this lusciously retro orange-red jersey with the sunglasses print! I caught a glimpse of it online at @josephinesdrygoods and absolutely leapt at it. I have been hoarding this fabric as I waited to find the summer sundress pattern that’s **just right** to finally let the debut into the world with me. And then the Collin’s came along and I finally got a chance to make it. I truly could not be more thrilled with this dress from the fit to the fabric to the construction to the overall ease and swift execution. What a beaut’. And so many compliments.

The @seamwork #aaronicadress in a white and neon green wavy checkered jersey from my stash, which I can’t remember where I purchased it from. I actually started this dress two years ago but it ended up in my WIP pile because it was my second project with knits and I really messed up the neckband, so I tossed it aside in defeat. I found it again a few months ago and had it hanging up to finish once the weather got warmer, and now it’s *finally* complete.

I made this in a size 10 and I’m pretty sure I added 2” to the length for #sewingtall. This is a ridiculously quick and easy project (maybe have a bit of experience with knits or a bit more patience than I have). It’s a perfect figure-flattering summer dress and you could make it with so many fun fabrics. I have a lot in my project queue right now, but I may take a beat to slip another Aaronica Dress in.

I find the whole process of the makes photoshoots for IG so uncomfortable and awkward, so I’ve been trying to have more fun lately and not take it so seriously. So here you get a maybe super embarrassing screaming female picture of me.

I made a pair of comfy, cozy cottage core pants with the @matchymatchysewingclub #apronpants. I’ve had these cut out forever and finally made them after a number of sewing fails and needing something quick, easy, and cute to boost my confidence back up. I love the frills on the pockets. They’re such a fun feature and pair really well with this classic @fableism daisies fabric.

I made these in a size 12 with 1” added to the rise and 3” added to the legs for #sewingtall. The adjustments worked pretty well. I desperately need more shorts in my wardrobe, so I think I’ll make these in the shorts version pretty soon.

I made my first corset, and I loved it! I took an 8-week course from a lady I’ve been learning from for a while who is an expert with corsets, and it was so nice to learn from someone for this challenging garment. I would not have been able to figure out all the techniques and components on my own.

Pattern is Butterick #B5935 and I chose to go with view A. Main fabric is actually a beautiful thrifted bedsheet, and the icy blue lining and bias binding is another thrifted bedsheet. And this was made this with real steel boning. So satisfying! We used shoe lace with silver aglets for the tie in the back. I will say, this is damn near impossible to lace up without help, so the pics don’t show the corset as tight as it should be. I’ll need to recruit help next time I wear it.

Oh, and I was challenged to use a kettlebell for part of the photoshoot, which is why I’m overhead pressing one in one of the photos. In a corset and heels 🤪.

Scent Pairing: Magdalene by @amorphousperfume. Oak moss, blooming geraniums, light patchouli, and almonds.

The brand new @stitchwitchpatterns #margietop but made ~~Warrior Queen~~ style 🗡️👑🏹👑⚔️

This is the second version of the top I made during testing, and whoa did she turn out to be something very special and powerful. The fabric is a mystery fabric my neighbor found that got left behind at one of his construction sites and knew I’d take off his hands. Brocade? Home decor fabric? It’s very thick, so I had to modify a few things like the strap construction, but how gorgeous is that floral print?! Definitely a score. And I just happened to be going through a box of random trims and notions to be reminded I had a strip of that feather trim I’d been holding onto that was too short for an actual hem for anything, but absolutely perfect for the straps of this top. I had the beaded trim in the same box that I knew I wanted to add to the hem. And it turned out so badass. How could this not be in my top 3 makes of all time now?

Same stats as for the first Margie top I made - 2” of length added to bodice pieces, an extra set of tie loops on the sides, 1” added to the straps for #sewingtall.

I’m almost done with the ruffle strap version of the Margie and have plans to make the small sleeve version so I have one of each in my closet. This pattern is IT 🔥

Scent Pairing: Mother Medusa by @amorphousperfume perfume. Aroma palette is electric and dark. Highlights include charred tree bark, static electricity, ancient wood, petrichor, sea soaked rocks, iron, pepper, and amber. This Margie top definitely smells electric and divinely ominous.
