Hobby Lobby clearance + a little creativity 🤎🏈

I go to Hobby Lobby every week, so I figured I might as well put all those clearance finds to good use 😂

I grabbed a few discounted pieces, pulled out my craft supplies, and turned them into a little game day tote.

Total cost: less than $3 🥳

Intentionality is an inheritance. 🧵✨

I come from a line of matriarchs who understood that people matter. My grandmother and mother were architects of that feeling.

Even though I only know them through stories, I see their uniqueness in my own hands every time I start a new project.

When I create, I’m not just making a product; I’m creating an experience where you feel the love and attention you deserve.

Just a little insight into the heart of what’s being built.💙💐

Day 28 marks the finale of the Wearable Museum, highlighting 100 years of Black History Month and its origins 🖤

Black History Month began in 1926 as Negro History Week, founded by historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. He believed Black history had to be studied, preserved, and taught intentionally.

The week was placed in February to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, dates already celebrated in Black communities.

In 1976, during the U.S. Bicentennial, Negro History Week officially expanded into Black History Month, recognizing the depth and impact of Black contributions to American and global history.

One hundred years later, the mission remains the same: document it, teach it, wear it, live it.

Thank you sincerely for the support, the comments, the shares, and the conversations throughout this series. This project stretched me creatively, and I’m grateful you’ve been on this journey with me.💝💝💝

Stay tuned for more creative things ✨

Lift Every Voice and Sing was written as a poem in 1900 by James Weldon Johnson and later set to music by his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson.

First performed by 500 schoolchildren in Jacksonville, Florida, it became a powerful anthem of resilience during the Jim Crow era and the Civil Rights Movement.

In 1919, the NAACP adopted it as the “Negro National Anthem,” and its lyrics speak of faith, endurance, and hope through generations of struggle.

“Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us. Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us.”

Tomorrow is the last day of Black History Month, but the learning does not stop here.

This hoodie continues to grow as a wearable museum, honoring people that built access, opportunity, and legacy.

Day 26 highlights cultural flags that carry identity, resistance, and celebration.

The Soulaan Flag represents descendants of enslaved Africans in the United States who identify ethnically as Soulaan, emphasizing lineage, culture, and a self-defined national identity rooted in the Black American experience.

The Juneteenth flag, created by Ben Haith in 1997, honors June 19, 1865, when enslaved Texans were informed of their freedom. The bursting star represents Texas, and the arc symbolizes a new horizon.

The Pan-African flag was designed in 1920 under the leadership of Marcus Garvey and the UNIA. Red stands for the blood shed for liberation, black for the people, and green for the land.

Flags are more than fabric. They are declarations in color.

This hoodie continues to grow as a wearable museum.

The Negro National League was founded in 1920 by Rube Foster, creating a structured professional league for Black players during segregation.

Powerhouse teams included the Chicago American Giants, Kansas City Monarchs, Detroit Stars, and Indianapolis ABCs, drawing thousands of fans and building thriving Black-owned sports enterprises.

The league produced legends like Satchel Paige, one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball history; Josh Gibson, credited with nearly 800 career home runs; and Cool Papa Bell, whose speed became legendary.

In 2020, Major League Baseball officially recognized the Negro Leagues as major leagues, cementing their statistics and legacy in professional baseball history.

This hoodie continues to grow as a wearable museum, honoring institutions that built access, opportunity, and legacy.

The first seven of sixteen Black men elected to Congress during Reconstruction served in the 41st and 42nd Congress, stepping into federal leadership during one of the most transformative periods in American history.

Hiram Rhodes Revels: The first Black U.S. Senator, taking the seat once held by the former president of the Confederacy.

Benjamin S. Turner: Businessman and representative who fought to restore the Southern economy and secure land rights for formerly enslaved people.

Robert C. De Large: Organizer and congressman who served on the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Interior.

Josiah T. Walls: Former soldier and Florida’s first Black congressman, advocating for public education and infrastructure.

Jefferson H. Long: Georgia’s first Black representative and an outspoken defender of voting rights.

Joseph H. Rainey: The first Black member seated in the House of Representatives, serving multiple terms and defending civil rights protections.

They helped define citizenship, representation, and political participation for generations to come.

HBCUs were founded to provide higher education opportunities when access was denied elsewhere, and today there are over 100 HBCUs across the United States continuing that mission.

Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, founded in 1837, holds the distinction of being the nation’s first HBCU. Established before the Civil War, Cheyney created pathways to education and leadership at a time when those opportunities were intentionally limited.

Though HBCUs make up a small percentage of colleges nationwide, they continue to produce a significant share of Black professionals, including educators, scientists, lawyers, doctors, and leaders across industries. Their impact reaches far beyond campus grounds.
