It’s Better To Be a Warrior in a Garden Than To Be a Gardener in a War

The 2026 summer @pcs_league and @gpa_galacticpistolalliance season comes to an end. We just about had enough light for the last stage. Credit to B and S for the matches this summer and everyone who makes them such fun but seriously competitive events. @glockinc ran fine after a clean and a new recoil spring. by @underhook

Baller @shootidpa match yesterday. Last run of the @austinproulx_shooter stage and everybody who took his class last week had noticeable improvement. I had the same @glockinc malfunction twice. Giving the gun a clean and a new recoil spring. @holosunoptics comp optic is. champ and the @glockinc 45 with GPT trigger cycles just as I like. Thank you to at @donslaught206 for building all the wall on the north range as we can now have "phone box gunfight" stages that are brutally fast. #2A #Pewpew #IDPA #Glock by @underhook

Spent the last two days training with @austinproulx_shooter at his @gofastconcepts competition class, and it was worth every minute. Austin catches the tiny details most people miss and knows how to explain them clearly. One of the best instructors I've trained with — go book a class. @shootidpa, @glockinc. Thank you @downzero214 for making the connection as a lot of my crew benefited from Austin. by @underhook

Decision-making training today.

A device pairs a laser with a shot timer to project a visual stimulus on the target that you have to react to. Green gun = shoot. Red hand = no-shoot. It measures your reaction time to the stimulus, both to engage and to stop engaging once the stimulus disappears. You keep engaging a target all the time the green gun stays on switching from body to head. If two or more threats appear at once each gets a single round before serving more.

Interesting tool. I find scenario-based training much richer, but it's harder to set up. Still trying to figure out whether this has a role, and whether you can actually train your visual processing speed to be faster. I understand this device was created by the US Navy to provide training onboard ships. It was refined by John Farnam as part of his Nuro system https://buildingshooters.com/nuro-system/ by @underhook

Baller @shootidpa match today. Speed is carrying over from @pcs_league hit factor, but the points down hurt badly in IDPA. Add some limp wristing on the one-handed shot and some poor reloads, but I’ll like the direction I’m moving in and know what to work on. It’s incredible how much time and camera data are now available to analyze and become a better shooter. Shooting my carry gun - @glockinc 45 @trijicon HD. by @underhook

Putting is some work today. Medium movement (about 20ft) with a reload moving left and moving right. The timer does not lie and tells you where you can shave time. @glockinc 47 @holosunoptics Comp. @kestrelmeters timer. by @underhook

Great Thursday night summer match with @pcs_league. Flow state on almost every stage. The exception: stage one, third array, I stepped in with no plan for the two targets, got stuck in a loop, and just kept shooting. Mental version of trigger freeze. Adding it to the training list. @glockinc 47 with @holosunoptics Comp. #2A #PewPew #Glock by @underhook

A little 1911 iron sight action today to finish off practice. There is no trigger like the 1911 and no more enjoyable recoil than sending .45 ACP ashtrays down range. @springfieldarmoryinc TRP has always run for me. by @underhook

Summer Thursday Night @gpa_galacticpistolalliance. The tap-n-rack is because I'd shot my gun dry (18) but the slide did not lock back and I'd put a mag in a gun with an empty chamber. Otherwise happy with this run. by @underhook

No greater flex than a photo of @timherronshooting and AJ Zito standing in front of a photo of @timherronshooting — on your action shed door. This was the 3rd year we've been lucky enough to host Tim, and he brought AJ along this time. Outstanding instruction that drove measurable improvement in everyone in the class by @underhook

Celebrating America's 250th birthday with a baller match. The 2011 safety caught me out multiple times! American's are allowed to disrespect King George III one day a year. @shootipda @staccato2011 by @underhook
