some fonts are designed to be seen rather than read. fonts as couture is a common analogy. cooper black is one of those fonts, doing the remarkable job of retaining a unthreatening demeanour despite its thickset look.

cooper black practice 2/3 when oswald copper first created this font he was worried that he would only achieve ‘a tiresome effect from too frequent repetition of the same quirk and curve’. but what he actually managed to achieve was creating a serif font that felt spiritually sans serif.

cooper black practice 1/3.
created by oswald bruce cooper in the 1920s as a font that could be sold to advertisers. he believed it was ideal ‘for far-sighted printers with near sighted costumers’. something that easyjet picked up on: a font that looks best from afar.

a sign i painted for the local @spotonsheffield snooker club. a slogan to truly live by 🙏. this design is based entirely on an old japanese matchbox label for the katsutama billiards room. by @undleeb

i’ve redone the bad no parking signs on my road, here is the first for the local chinese takeaway spot. the white is the original, the middle is my first free hand attempt from when i first started learning sign-writing and the top one is latest one. my favourite thing about this is that they have no idea who i am and i love that they kept each sign up. yay to progress 🌚. when i learn to gild i will absolutely be making them a glass one 🤪. #signwriting by @undleeb

I feel like in some ways, in it’s purest form; some people are gifted the strength and bravery to give birth to their heart in human form. and then they very graciously and kindly allow us to watch and share in the joys as their hearts get bigger, grow little legs and then eventually as they think their own thoughts and become their own little person. and honestly I think there is little else in life as sweet. ❣️ by @undleeb
