Beyond thrilled to announce that UNDOC+Collective is part of the 2026 A Blade of Grass In Fellowship cohort! 🌱

UNDOC+Collective is a nationwide network dedicated to building knowledge, visibility, and sustainability for undoc+ (formerly or currently undocumented) creatives working across the contemporary art ecosystem. Grounded in the cultural competency, expertise, wisdom, and vision of undocumented creatives, UNDOC+Collective centers migratory lived experience as a site of knowledge production, artistic innovation, and future-making. Through exhibitions, publications, artist residencies, symposia, digital resources, and public convenings, UNDOC+Collective constructs collective knowledge that spotlights historically excluded undoc+ artistic practices and their intellectual contributions.

📚 Courtesy of an initiative in partnership with @jstor_org and @fowlermuseum academic readers can now enjoy our latest publication digitally and free of charge, while the physical copy may be purchased online via @uwapress or onsite at @fowlermuseum in UCLA.

“As part of an ongoing effort to increase the reach and impact of museum scholarship and research, we are digitizing our exhibition catalogs and books. Making Fowler publications available to scholars, students, and the public across the globe.” @fowlermuseum

“JSTOR’s mission is to expand access to knowledge and education for people around the world. Using advanced technology, we bring to life scholarly materials from the world’s libraries, museums, and publishers. Making access affordable, sustainable, and providing long-term preservation supports research, teaching, and learning.” @jstor_org

“The University of Washington Press is the oldest and largest publisher of scholarly and general interest books in the Pacific Northwest. We are committed to the idea of scholarship as a public good and work collaboratively with our authors to produce books.” @uwapress

in)visibility: aesthetics of undocumentedness
Printed by @uwapress & @fowlermuseum
In collaboration with @curatorlove & @undocpluscollective
Digitally available via @jstor_org 📚🤎📚

The works featured in this publication visually explore the aesthetics of undocumentedness, the complexity of migration journeys, hyperdocumentation, re-indigenizing, immigrant labor and trauma, remembrance, and refugee and exilee concerns. The publication is composed by writers who, like the curator of the intended exhibition and the artists featured in the book, are in the undocumented spectrum. The names of all participants are thus purposefully concealed.

The editor of this volume is a formerly undocumented, first-generation, transnational, Japanese-Mexican immigrant and UCLA doctoral candidate. (in)visibility foregrounds the aesthetic achievements of undoc+ authors and scholars while centering care and protection for participants.

UNDOC+Collective invites undoc+ (formerly or currently undocumented) creatives to join us for a gathering retreat. To imagine what becomes possible when we gather not around scarcity, productivity, or crisis, but around care, kinship, creativity, and collective liberation grounded in our ancestral knowledge.

We welcome applications from people working in the contemporary arts ecosystem whose lives are shaped by migration, displacement, and border-crossing experiences, including artists, curators, arts administrators, arts scholars, and cultural bearers, as well as undoc+ migrants, refugees, exilees, and asylum seekers.

We recognize that our community is navigating an uncertain political landscape surrounding immigration, mobility, and travel. Puerto Rico is a domestic travel destination, yet we encourage participants to carefully assess their individual circumstances and prioritize their personal safety.
