Showcasing our soul through arts and culture ✨ As part of our commitment to expanding access and creating spaces where visual art, performance, and community converge, we embarked on an inspiring 12-hour Studio Visit journey across Houston. By grounding our work in Community as a Source and Curiosity as a Method, we stepped inside the creative sanctuaries of four extraordinary artists shaping the U.S. Latino art landscape: 📍 Violette Bule @violettebule — Examining how power dynamics and architecture regulate everyday life, using water as a conceptual framework for memory, displacement, and transformation. 📍 Venessa Monokian @vmonokian — Investigating ideas about her environment that extend beyond the tangible to explore the psychological elements of space, where the viewer's physical interaction becomes integral to the art. 📍 Julia Barbosa Landois @jblandois — Uncovering profundity and absurdity in the everyday through upcycled materials, performance, and dialogues on bodily autonomy. 📍 Nela Garzón @minkstereo — Honoring ancestral legacies through slow, meditative fiber art and traditional crafts as living acts of cultural resistance. An institution already at work bringing Latino arts and culture to the forefront. ➡️ Swipe through the carousel to step inside the studios! Which artist's vision resonates most with you? Tell us in the comments! 👇 #ALMAAHH #StudioVisit #HoustonArt #AmericanLatinoArt #VioletteBule #VenessaMonokian #JuliaBarbosaLandois #NelaGarzon #ArtAndCommunity

We had a packed house last week for Antonio Perez’s artist talk! Thank you to all who attended and a huge thanks to Perez for making the long drive out from LA to share his stories, processes, and nearly a 100 out-of-this-world churros. In physics, quantum entanglement refers to a permanent connection between bonded particles; whatever happens to one particle immediately affects the other, no matter how far they drift apart. For artist Antionio Perez, it’s a compelling framework through which to reflect on the ties that bind family members across generations, which continue to reverberate across time and space.⁣ ⁣ Join us Thursday, September 17, at 3:30pm in the MVC Art Gallery for an artist talk with Antonio Perez. ⁣ A reception for the exhibition 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘰 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘻: 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 will follow. Churros from Perez’s neighborhood panaderia, Lucero Bakery in Bell Gardens, will be served and coffee will be provided by the Lion’s Den.⁣ ⁣ The MVC Art Gallery is in the Student Services Bldg, Room 217. Parking is free during the event in Lot A and Lot B.⁣ ⁣ Artwork: 🖼️⁣ 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘻𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰/𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, 2026⁣ Phototransfer, Cement, EPS concrete, Mexican river rock⁣ ⁣ —⁣ ⁣ 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘰 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘻: 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 is presented at the MVC Art Gallery in conjunction with FotoSoCal, by @curatorlove, a constellation of exhibitions that feature the work of Brown, Mexican-American, Nepantlera, Mestiza, Indigenous, Chicanx, Mexican-Irish, Afro-Mexicana, Chicano, Latine, Undocumented, Oaxaqueñe, Yaqui, migrant, Guatemalan-Mexican, Salvadoran, Mexican-Filipino (Mexipino), Chapin, immigrant, undoc+, and Japanese-Mexican (Jaxican) photographers and lens-based artists.⁣ ⁣ @cadillactony @foto_socal —⁣ ⁣ Riverside Community College District is committed to providing access and reasonable accommodation to all District programs and activities.
