People don't respect you, they respect what you have.

Try this test: Go broke for 6 months. See how many calls you will receive. See how many people will respect your opinion in a meeting.

Now make money for 6 months. Watch how even your relatives start calling you "sir". Watch how even strangers listen when you talk nonsense.

Same you, different money different respect.

Your family will respect you more when you can solve problems with money.
Your friends will listen to you more when you drive a good car.
Your community will call you a leader when your pocket is heavy.

It is ugly, but it is true. No one respects a poor man, no matter how wise he is.

For those spending this Christmas alone
when you wished to be held.

For those spending it childless
when you longed to cradle a child of your own.

For those this year dealt a blow.
Divorce.
Death.
Loss of livelihood.

Know this.
We see you.

You may not attend this year’s Christmas gathering.
Your seat at the table may be empty.

But your story is not missing from history.

For those who will hear no carols because life is loud and chaotic.
And for those who will play no jingles because you are still in the jungle.

Keep walking.

You are not unfortunate.
You are not unlucky.

Everyone has a season in the wilderness.

One day you will look back and realize you passed this mountain.
But the person you became while climbing it will remain.

That was the point of the mountain.

This storm did not come to remove you.
It came to clear your path.

This Christmas may not feel merry.
But the end of your story will.

Do not force cheer.
Do not gather where you have no strength.

Someone once told me, ‘Marry someone you can suffer with.’

At first, I thought that was the saddest advice I’d ever heard. Why would anyone step into love thinking about suffering? Isn’t love supposed to be about joy, laughter, flowers, candlelit dinners, and happily-ever-afters?

But life has a way of teaching you things that fairytales don’t. Now I see what they meant.
cause real love isn’t about the easy parts. It isn’t about the perfect vacations, the gifts, or the sweet photos where everyone is smiling. Those are beautiful, yes—but they aren’t the test of love.

Real love is about the storm. It’s about the days when nothing makes sense, when the bills pile up, when grief knocks at your door, when you don’t even recognize yourself in the mirror.

It’s about who stands with you in those moments.
Who holds you when you’re drowning.
Who refuses to let you sink.

Real love isn’t the person who just throws you flowers when you’re crying. It’s the one who rolls up their sleeves, gets in the water, and builds you a boat.

It’s not always pretty. It’s not always easy. But it’s the kind of love that endures, that deepens, that carries you through every season.

So yes, now I understand. Marry someone you can suffer with. Not because suffering is romantic, but because real love is proven in the hardest places.

Being a parent is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Every day we wake up trying our very best. We work, we struggle, and sometimes we fail. We give our all to our children, hoping to fill their lives with love, comfort, and the little joys that make them smile. We try to fulfill their wishes, even when it feels impossible, even when life keeps pushing back.

There are nights when we lie awake thinking about everything we could not give them, everything we wished we could do better. We wonder if our efforts are enough, if we are making the right choices, if someday they will understand the sacrifices we made out of love.

Slowly, little by little, life begins to settle. Things get better. Challenges become easier to face. But then a quiet fear creeps in. Our children are growing so fast. Will the wishes they have now stay the same? Will the dreams they dream as they grow still be something we can help make real? I wish I could capture this moment, this stage of their lives, and give them everything they hope for while they are still small, before time moves on and life changes them.

Parenthood is not about perfection. It is about showing up, every day, with love, patience, and hope. It is about trying, even when it is hard, even when we feel we are not enough. One day, slowly, everything will fall into place, and our children will carry the love we gave them into the world. Until then, we do our best, and that is enough. by @unique_josphat
