Detecting anomalies is just the beginning. Understanding the threat is the goal.

In a recently published paper from our team, we focused on how pinholes are detected and characterized. What stood out is the tool's ability to detect more than expected, even below typical detection limits.

But that doesn’t automatically mean anomalies are fully understood. Data quality, morphology, and the method for verification all influence the decisions that need to be made. In some cases, different NDE methods result in significant variances.

So the question isn’t just, "Did we detect it?"

It’s, "Do we understand it well enough to make the right decision?"

On most pipeline projects, issues aren’t technical. Communication determines success.

Drawings, specifications and plans can be solid, but once the crew is mobilized, things can change. Piping configurations may have been modified, access is tighter than planned, or the flow rate has decreased.

At that point, field crews adjust in real time. Nothing is necessarily wrong, but things drift and get more complicated.

Project success requires clarity and communication. Once everyone is working from the same understanding of reality, collaboration and adaptability make the difference.

That’s where UPP excels: a focus on delivering customer service that adapts to solve real pipeline integrity challenges.

A lot of pipeline decisions come down to one thing:
knowing what condition it’s actually in.

You know what actually needs attention.
What can wait.
And where money should be spent.

Without that, you’re guessing.

Maintenance gets pushed.
Budgets get allocated based on assumptions.
And small issues can get missed.

That’s where problems start to build.

When you understand the condition of a pipeline early,
you can prioritize the right work,
manage risk properly,
and avoid bigger issues down the line.

It’s better for the asset,
better for the environment,
and better for everyone involved.

🔥 Circle K Classic Update 🔥

The Calgary UPP NW Flames are heading into the final day of the Circle K Classic sitting first in Pool 7, thanks to strong offensive production across all four pool games.

All four teams in the pool finished with identical 2–2 records and 6 points, but the Flames’ 23 goals for lead the group and give them the edge heading into bracket play. Consistent scoring, balanced lines, and a relentless pace have been key in separating Calgary from the rest in a tightly contested pool.

Quarterfinals wrap up today, with semifinals and finals on deck tomorrow. This team has momentum, confidence, and depth on its side as the stakes rise.
