The not-so-grand “unboxing” of BECOMING BOBBY KENNEDY! 😆

You can pre-order at the link and receive a “you’re my friend” 40% discount by pre-ordering today with code 6AF26

I am so grateful for the opportunity to share this story. I learned so much and I have so much left to learn. If you are looking to work together in common cause to build a better country, you’ll find a few lessons within. Bobby Kennedy was not perfect. But he used his privilege to fight for the causes that mattered most to the people he saw suffering. Thanks for reading, sharing, and hopefully attending the Eau Claire book launch Nov. 12 at 6pm at the @ecpubliclibrary

Last November, a group of historians, writers, and scholars from across the country gathered in the old Washington High School in downtown Sioux Falls, now the @washpav, to take up a question the field has been circling for years: the Midwest is one of the largest regions in the country and the least studied. What would it take to change that?

The Fall 2026 issue of Middle West Review is our answer, or at least the beginning of one. Twenty-one essays from that gathering ask where the Midwest actually begins and ends, why we study the people who leave and overlook the ones who stay, what belongs in a Midwestern canon, and how to bring the region’s history back into the classroom, the university, and the public conversation. The voices are as varied as the region itself: geographers, literary scholars, musicologists, a novelist, a small farmer, a newspaper editor.

In his introduction, editor Jon K. Lauck sets the table and looks ahead. The conference returns to Sioux Falls in November 2026, joined by a new documentary on the effort to revive Midwestern studies. Consider it an invitation.

Lauck’s introduction is free to read at the link in bio. The full issue is available through Project MUSE and the @univnebpress.
