Every year, members have multiple chances to sharpen how they lead.

Leadership Academy. Zenith Officers Institute. Regional Conferences. National Convention. You spend a few days learning alongside brothers from campuses across the country, then bring it back and put it to work at home.

Cost is usually the first question. Up to 90% of travel to these events is covered through each chapter’s Chapter Educational Grant. Getting to these events shouldn’t be a burden, and through the generosity of the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation, we’ve made sure that finances wouldn’t prevent anyone from attending.

Myth 1: Fraternity life is just parties.

Reality: While there is a social element, the parties are the smallest part of it. What actually fills your calendar is community service and philanthropy work, chapter business, study hours, and professional networking with our nationwide network of Phi Kappa Tau alumni.

You’re not joining a social calendar. You’re finding a community and stepping into something bigger than yourself with over a century of history on college campuses.

Myth 2: I’m not the fraternity type.

Reality: There isn’t one. The strongest chapters are full of engineers and artists, athletes and musicians, guys who talk a lot and guys who don’t. What they share is strong character and a willingness to become the best versions of themselves, not a particular personality type.

If you’ve been told you don’t fit, you were probably talking to the wrong group.

Myth 3: Starting a new chapter means starting from nothing.

Reality: You get a national staff, a full leadership and educational event curriculum, alumni volunteers, a pre-established professional network, and a working model of excellence. What you don’t get is somebody else’s traditions or somebody else’s reputation.

Most guys inherit a chapter. You’d be building one from the ground up.

We sat down with Brother @literally_franko333 who is helping us lead the charge in bringing Phi Kappa Tau to UNLV for a quick chat about the work it takes to start an interest group on a campus without a Phi Tau chapter.

After initiating at @untphitau, Franco transferred to UNLV and realized he had an opportunity to help bring Phi Kappa Tau to his new campus. He shares his story and gives us insight into some of the work it takes to start an interest group.

A new chapter is coming to UNLV, and it starts with you.

There’s no chapter reputation to inherit here, no traditions already set. Whatever Phi Tau becomes on this campus starts with the founding fathers who build it, and that reputation carries for years to come. This is your chance to be part of something bigger than yourself from the very beginning.

Big news: Phi Kappa Tau is coming to UNLV.

This fall marks our first time expanding to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. This is our first chapter ever at UNLV, and it’s happening because a group of guys on campus wanted it enough to make the first move.

That’s the best part, this isn’t starting from nothing. There’s already a core group of guys putting in the work to build this chapter, and they’re looking for more men to join them in being Founding Fathers at UNLV. Every friendship this chapter has one day, every guy who calls himself a Phi Tau at UNLV years from now, it traces back to this founding group.
