Mario El Khouri: «Is this the Beginning or just the End?» As Part of Fotosommer at UNO ART SPACE
Friday, 17 July 2026, 3–5 pm
The artist will be present.

As part of the Stuttgart Fotosommer, UNO ART SPACE presents «Between Poetry and Abyss», a group exhibition developed through a collaborative workshop process.

We continue our series of artist features with Mario El Khouri’s «Is this the Beginning or just the End?»

Beirut as a permanent archive of decay: Since 2016, Mario El Khouri has documented the layers of destruction, repair, and reconstruction that shape the city.

The project unfolds in two acts in the gallery: first in the public space outside the gallery, then inside, where the essence of this urban entropy reveals itself in detail. Makeshift webs of cables, overgrown vegetation, and layers of concrete covering history — not a state of transition, but a built reality.

Alongside El Khouri’s work, the exhibition brings together Heidrun Stern’s «Survival», Patrick Maier’s reflections on blocked memory, Marcel Rauschkolb’s photographic exploration of longing and remembrance through a model railway landscape, and Ilonka Czerny’s engagement with experiences of violence that resist representation.

We are delighted to welcome you to UNO ART SPACE this Friday from 3–5 pm for an informal exhibition viewing and conversation with the artists before the official opening of the Stuttgart Fotosommer.

Closing Party & Artist Talk
Saturday, 25 July 2026, 7 pm

Galerienrundgang Herbst 2026 🔴 UNO ART SPACE präsentiert

Cordula Diebold, Francesca Hummler

Ausstellungslaufzeit: 19.09. - 15.01.2027

Cordula Diebold ist während des Galerienrundgangs anwesend.

Ilonka Czerny: «Light Up the Unspeakable» As Part of Fotosommer at UNO ART SPACE
Today, Friday, 17 July 2026, 3–5 pm
The artist will be present.

As part of the Stuttgart Fotosommer, UNO ART SPACE presents «Between Poetry and Abyss», a group exhibition developed through a collaborative workshop process.

We continue our series of artist features with Ilonka Czerny's «Light Up the Unspeakable».
There are places that remain silent. That continue to exist as if nothing had happened. Ilonka Czerny gained access to the rooms in which sexualised violence against a child was committed over the course of years. Through photography and sound, and through atmospheric light as a stylistic device, she traces the marks of this violence. At the core of the work is bearing witness. The individual voice of the survivor is to be made heard and visible — on behalf of all those who are left alone with their silence.

Alongside Czerny's work, the exhibition brings together Heidrun Stern's exploration of the transience of the living through specimens in a natural history archive, Mario El Khouri's documentation of Beirut as a permanent archive of decay, Patrick Maier's reflections on blocked memory, and Marcel Rauschkolb's photographic exploration of longing and remembrance through a model railway landscape.

Patrick Maier: «Not Available» As Part of Fotosommer at UNO ART SPACE Today, Friday, 17 July 2026, 3–5 pm
The artist will be present.

As part of the Stuttgart Fotosommer, UNO ART SPACE presents «Between Poetry and Abyss», a group exhibition developed through a collaborative workshop process.

We continue our series of artist features with Patrick Maier's «Not Available».

The starting point is a private photo album from 1968, documenting a couple's honeymoon to the South of France. Patrick Maier painted over the 24 photographs in large areas with black acrylic paint. The interventions do not point to the disappearance of memory, but to its final state: memories that are not gone, but inaccessible. The blocked space of memory is not an empty space. It is simply no longer available.

Alongside Maier's work, the exhibition brings together Heidrun Stern's exploration of the transience of the living through specimens in a natural history archive, Mario El Khouri's documentation of Beirut as a permanent archive of decay, Marcel Rauschkolb's photographic exploration of longing and remembrance through a model railway landscape, and Ilonka Czerny's engagement with experiences of violence that resist representation.

Marcel Rauschkolb: «The Absence of the Train Driver» As Part of Fotosommer at UNO ART SPACE opening Friday, 17 July 2026, 3–5 pm

As part of the Stuttgart Fotosommer, UNO ART SPACE presents «Between Poetry and Abyss», a group exhibition developed through a collaborative workshop process.

We continue our series of artist features with Marcel Rauschkolb's «The Absence of the Train Driver».

The model railway layout of his late father-in-law becomes a photographically examined space of memory. Illuminated solely by a flashlight, the camera traces the surface like an instrument of forensic investigation. The chaos of cables beneath the layout is transformed by Rauschkolb through cyanotype into abstract images. Hand-drawn track plans and unfinished to-do lists complete the work, as a final reference to the finitude of an existence.

Alongside Rauschkolb's work, the exhibition brings together Heidrun Stern's exploration of the transience of the living through specimens in a natural history archive, Mario El Khouri's documentation of Beirut as a permanent archive of decay, Patrick Maier's reflections on blocked memory, and Ilonka Czerny's engagement with experiences of violence that resist representation.

We are delighted to welcome you to UNO ART SPACE this Friday from 3–5 pm for an informal exhibition viewing and conversation with some the artists before the official opening of the Stuttgart Fotosommer.

Heidrun Stern: « Survival »
As Part of Fotosommer at UNO ART SPACE
Friday, 17 July 2026, 3–5 pm
The artists will be present.

As part of the Stuttgart Fotosommer, UNO ART SPACE presents « Between Poetry and Abyss », a group exhibition developed through a collaborative workshop process.

We begin our series of artist features with Heidrun Stern’s « Survival ». In the archives of Museum Koenig Bonn, Stern photographed preserved specimens, some several hundred years old. Through layered imagery, shifting perspectives, and the interplay of analogue and digital photography, her work reflects on transience, mortality, and the paradox of making death visible while questioning photographic authenticity. What exists between life and death is preserved here—as a utopian vision of immortality.

The work was created with the kind support of Museum Koenig Bonn, Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change.

Alongside Stern’s work, the exhibition brings together Patrick Maier’s reflections on blocked memory, Marcel Rauschkolb’s photographic exploration of longing and remembrance through a model railway landscape, Mario El Khouri’s observations from the streets of Beirut, and Ilonka Czerny’s engagement with experiences of violence that resist representation.

We are delighted to welcome you to UNO ART SPACE this Friday from 3–5 pm for an informal exhibition view and conversation with the artists before the official opening of the Stuttgart Fotosommer.

Fotosommer Opening Event at
UNO ART SPACE
Between Poetry and Abyss
Friday, 17 July 2026, 3–5 pm
The artists will be present.

As part of the Stuttgart Fotosommer, UNO ART SPACE presents works by Ilonka Czerny, Mario El Khouri, Patrick Maier, Marcel Rauschkolb and Heidrun Stern. The exhibition concept is the outcome of a collaborative workshop process.

We are delighted to welcome you to UNO ART SPACE this coming Friday from 3 to 5 pm, together with the artists.

Before the official opening of the Stuttgart Fotosommer, we would like to offer you the opportunity to experience the exhibition in a relaxed atmosphere and to engage in conversation with the artists.

Afterwards, you are invited to continue together to the Gällery, where the official opening of the Stuttgart Fotosommer and the vernissage of the photography competition will take place at 6 pm. I am especially pleased to have been part of the jury this year together with my colleagues.

The works move between poetry and abyss: from the transience of living things in the Natural History Museum, to blocked memories and the longing for a model railway, to the streets of Beirut and experiences of violence that evade any form of representation.

Note: Throughout the week, we will introduce the participating artists and their works in more detail on Instagram. We would be delighted if you followed along.

Further dates at UNO ART SPACE

Saturday, 25 July 2026, 7 pm

»The Absence of the Train Driver«, now shown at UNO ART SPACE, Stuttgart, is a project that presents an alternative portrait of a person, inspired by a long-standing, somewhat delayed yearning for a model train set. It’s included in the group exhibition »Between Poetry and the Abyss« (Zwischen Poesie und Abgrund), which originated from a masterclass led by gallery owner Ute (thank you!).
The exhibition also showcases works by these talented artists:
Ilonka Czerny @ilonkaczerny_artsalon
Mario El Khouri @elkhourimario
Patrick Maier @patrickmaier1.3
and Heidrun Stern @heidrunstern.
To give you a glimpse, here are some impressions from our wonderful opening — thanks to everyone who joined us last Saturday!
