🌸☀️Have you explored the @unrmed campus during every season?🍂❄️

One of the unique things about studying in Northern Nevada is experiencing all four seasons. Watch the campus come alive with budding spring flowers, enjoy sunny days surrounded by lush green lawns, take in the vibrant colors of fall and finish the year with breathtaking snow-covered mountain views.

It's just one of the many reasons we love calling Northern Nevada home.⛰️

On this episode of the #Sagebrushers podcast, @pres_sandoval sits down with Tami Brancamp, Ph.D., founder of the Aphasia Center of Nevada and an associate professor in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at @unrmed.

Brancamp explains the language disorder aphasia, which can happen after a stroke, a brain injury, a tumor or a neurological disease, and can severely inhibit the ability to speak or understand language. She explains how people with aphasia are historically excluded from and underrepresented in research, leading to reduced understanding of the condition and its impacts on daily life.

The two also discuss the University's aphasia camp, hosted annually in collaboration with Sierra Nevada Journeys. The weekend getaway provides opportunities for people with aphasia, their care partners and volunteers to build community, develop skills and spend time in the beautiful Sierra Nevada.

An @unevadareno graduate and clinical assistant professor of family medicine @unrmed, Wartgow provides comprehensive care in rural Nevada while mentoring the next generation of physicians through rural health rotations.

“I benefited tremendously from physicians who were willing to teach me throughout medical school and residency, so I see precepting as part of giving that investment back to the next generation,” Wartgow said.
