Is the artist truly in control of their buzz?
Spoiler: It mostly depends on them!
Drop a 🧨 if you believe artists really create their own hype! You’ve probably seen it… a buzz around an artist peaks, then suddenly fades when a big gallery steps in.
It’s like the gallery swoops in, and the artist’s spark dims. Why? Because real buzz comes from the artist’s own energy and visibility.
Galleries can amplify, but they can’t manufacture genuine hype, that’s all the artist’s work. Sometimes the gallery is where buzz goes to die. What the heck is buzz anyway? 🤷🏼‍♂️ by @unstretched.pod

Are we maybe stuck in the “pretty girl vs. smart girl” stereotype in art? Here’s what no one talks about...
Drop a 🤪 if you’ve ever felt boxed in by these labels or you think they’re absurd. As written about in @joeylico recent substack: you can be either the sellable, popular artist OR the critically acclaimed, invisible-to-the-public one.
Perhaps it’s a false choice that keeps so many talented creatives stuck. Do we celebrate one and neglect the other? The art world’s bifurcation isn’t just about fame or money, it’s about redefining what success really looks like. Maybe it’s time to challenge these outdated stereotypes.

How discovering the poetry of CP Cavafy (through the art of Hockney) influenced my own art. Have you ever found inspiration in unexpected places? I stumbled upon Cavafy’s poetry through a series of drawings by David Hockney inspired by his work, and it shifted everything for me. Cavafy’s homoerotic time bending words became the muse for my long-term creative journey. It’s crazy to think how a poet on the other side of the world in early 20th-century Alexandria was living out loud and openly writing about his gay life, using ancient language and imagery to talk about his subversive private desires… way ahead of his time! #CPCavafy #Cavafy by @unstretched.pod

When was making gay-themed art seen as radical? Maybe it still is, in some sections of the world… But definitely in the 1960s. Even then, artists like Hockney pushed boundaries in both politics and beauty.
For me, (Tim) Hockney’s work wasn’t just pretty, it was a declaration: gay life, raw and unhidden, put on the canvas as a matter of FACT. That’s what makes art so powerful; it challenges norms while conveying the human experience. David Hockney put gay life front and center into his work when pretty much no one else did. He absolutely paved the way for the freedoms we almost take for granted nowadays! by @unstretched.pod

🤯 When I was just seven, I got sent home for wearing a T-shirt that covered my shorts — because it looked like I didn’t have pants on. And honestly? That’s just the start of how girls are taught to hide, shame, or tame their bodies from day one.
Women are objectified and scrutinized from childhood, shaping how we see ourselves and it can find its way into our art. What do you think? by @unstretched.pod

Ever destroy your own work just because it didn’t meet your standards? Here’s why that might actually be a good thing. Drop a ✂️ if you’ve ever thrown out or hidden art because you felt it wasn’t good enough. I used to get so rigid with my art—if it didn’t sell, get attention, or fit the ‘success’ mold, I’d toss it. But guess what? Sometimes letting go is the real art. When I stop clinging to every piece, I leave space for growth and new ideas. Maybe it’s time we stop measuring our worth by the outcomes and start embracing the process—flaws, failures, and all. What’s your take? Do you hold onto or let go of projects that don’t “work”? Storage Wars! Ever felt like your art storage is literally taking over your life? Drop a 🤪 if you’ve ever been in a similar space chaos! Hane and I (Gina) have hilarious storage battles — her soft pillows vs. my crate chaos.
Mine’s almost to the ceiling — climbing in and out like a mountain climber. It’s a nightmare, but it’s necessary. It’s wild how “necessity” can push us to the brink, right? But sometimes, organization is just a mountain we have to climb.
