Why “Untamed” Trails? 🐎 🌄
On my own travels, I’ve been on multi-day rides that left memories I’ll carry forever - rides that made me feel as alive as never before. The trips I share here aren’t polished or luxurious. If you’re looking for a luxury riding safari, this isn’t for you (and we all know there’s already enough of that).

What I offer are rides on raw trails, under open skies, rides that make you feel the kind of freedom only a horse can give. Expect views that stay with you long after the ride ends, incredible horses that amaze you with the bond you build along the way, and stories from the locals that no ordinary tourist would ever get to hear. For me, the real luxury is reaching places you’d never see on foot or by car, and making memories money can’t buy.🤍

Hey, I’m Joanna😊🇨🇭 In my late twenties, passionate about horses and travel. Last year I took a break to follow that passion: exploring horse cultures in South America and Canada, with a strong purpose of learning more about horsemanship, and being inspired by different people and ways of life – as a volunteer, as a photographer, or simply as a guest.🐴🤠

What I got to experience turned out to be so much more than I dared to wish for… I discovered countless beautiful places, and from the back of a horse, culture feels different: more real, more immediate, more intense. Especially in South America I realized how fulfilling and sustainable these journeys are, far from mass tourism, deeply connected with people, horses, and nature – and with a sense of calm we rarely find in everyday life.

This experience lit a fire in me: telling the stories, sharing this unique way of traveling, and connecting you with those who make true adventures possible.✨

My mission: to bring this world closer to you. To share the places, horses, and people that touched me deeply. To help you find your very own riding adventure.🤠

Sept 18-20 2026: Enjoy the Swiss Alps from horseback with me 🐎🌄 for three days we ride reliable franche montagne horses through beautiful mountain scenery in the Engadin, a region also called the Canada of Switzerland, while sleeping in comfortable rooms in two mountain guesthouses along the route. This ride is for riders with intermediate experience, you should feel comfortable to do some longer trots and canters 🐎⛰️

So grateful to get to guide this ride for @reitenundyoga and also document this adventure as a photographer😊 we will be a mostly german speaking group thanks to the lovely @reitenundyoga community.

A unique 10 day horseback adventure, yes. But it‘s about so much more than the riding. All the heartfelt little moments in between; arriving at a new, carefully prepared camp every day, the chicos cooking (with so much passion!) over the fire, the horses grazing happily during our breaks, a mate going around. Also opening a beer on horseback, learning secret mate drink recipes to warm up on a rainy day, sitting outside until late - stargazing… Listening to their stories and folklore songs around the fire, trying to practice spanish as Jorge points out a Toucan close to our campsite… I could mention so many more moments. For ten days, you are completely immersed in local culture as you make your way through these stunning landscapes. The team takes care of you as if you were family, mostly not even doing it for the money but because they honestly love going out camping and connecting with you.

This video became way too long for the algorithm - but I don‘t care. These ten days were some of the happiest of my life. I hope you can feel the vibe a little bit through these impressions🥹

Seven days of exploring Colombia on horseback, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, amazing horses, and genuinely welcoming local guides. Expect mountain views, jungle trails, coffee farms, river crossings, opportunities to canter - and memories you’ll be talking about for years.

I just returned a couple of days ago from my own scouting trip to this wonderful place, as with all of my rides I first go there myself to see the horses, talk to the owner and guides, see the rooms and obviously… ride! This scouting trip was organized very spontaneously and yet it was the most pleasant surprise: The horses are some of the best (well trained, responsive, super well taken care of, good tack!) I’ve seen in South America - just as lovely as the owner and guides. As this wonderful community is growing, it‘s time to re-introduce myself once again and talk a bit about @untamedtrails__ ❤️‍🔥

English this time, because you guys all speak english and the only other alternative is swiss german😛 there‘s no way I‘ll do german content with my swiss accent, I don‘t like speaking german. Also I don‘t like my accent when speaking english but who fckn cares and you will hear me talk anyways once you come ride with me!!🤠 and then also I‘m just too lazy to keep trying until its perfect, so please excuse all my fill words and kinda chaotic storyline this was very spontaneous😂

Most likely I will talk more about how I work in the next few reels😊

«What attracted me to Untamed Trails was that, besides being a horse lover, Joanna is also a young female solo traveller. My solo experience on the Northern Argentina Ride was truly the experience of a lifetime and gave me incredible confidence for future travel. The hosts and guides were among the most hospitable people I have ever met. From the moment I left the US, Joanna and the ranch hosts stayed in close contact, arranged a trusted airport pickup, welcomed me personally at almost 2am and made sure I felt comfortable and supported throughout the journey.

The ride offered a diversity of landscapes and trails I never could have expected. Every day brought breathtaking scenery and new experiences. The horses were incredible examples of the Criollo breed - healthy, hardy, sweet, and exceptionally well cared for. They were thoughtfully prepared for the cabalgata and rested as necessary during the ride. I did appreciate how the route could be adapted to the groups needs.

Our host guide, Federico, was an attentive and observant leader who always seemed to know exactly what was needed. The local gauchos changed throughout the ride as we covered new regions, and it was a privilege to experience trails and places that had been part of their lives for generations. Each guide was knowledgeable, generous, and eager to share local culture and traditions, making every day feel authentic and special.

The food was outstanding. I expected plenty of meat in Argentina, but the variety, homemade vegetables, chimichurris, and excellent local wines far exceeded my expectations. Our camp cook, Jorge, was one of my favorite people to spend time with - fun, welcoming, and always happy to let us “help” around the fire while preparing incredible meals.

My expectations were exceeded tenfold. By the end of the trip, I was heartbroken to leave both the adventure and the friendships we had built over ten unforgettable days together. I will absolutely return to Salta and would especially recommend @untamedtrails__ to any female traveler considering an equestrian adventure. Don’t wait until your friends can go - just go!»

New Destination unlocked!✨ I recently returned from scouting this place and gosh I‘m speechless! Colombias eastern plains offer an incredibly authentic cowboy culture, huge herds of cattle, amazing horses and little to no tourists. I spent a week there herding 6000 head of cattle along 20 local cowboys, making unforgettable memories. This footage was shot in rainy season - in the dry season (nov-march) the landscapes change dramatically: expect the most stunning sunsets you‘ve ever seen, dry savannah with lots of wildlife (from anteaters to capybaras, anacondas and even jaguars!!) and warm nights outside in your cozy hammock (typical for the region but you can always choose a bed!) 😍🤠

August 9-19 2026 Horseback Adventure calling!🐎🌄 On this 10 day ride you’re riding with local gauchos and an english/spanish speaking guide, like that you to hear stories of locals who live far off who you’d never meet if not on this ride.
Warmhearted people guiding and supporting the group, incredible horses, incredible meals cooked over the fire (imagine ribs, salad, bread, a soup, grilled veggies, local stews, grilled veggies with cheese suitable for vegetarians... and much more), breathtaking and very diverse landscapes every day 🏜️🐎🌄
simple tent camping bringing you back to nature (and closer to yourself), but also two nights in a cozy holiday home with a hot shower & real bed at just the right time after four camping nights. Previous guests have absolutely loved it the next group is out on the ride as we speak!
