DANCE@UNT ALUM HIGHLIGHT

Meet Maggie Beutner Cheung (she/her) — Dance@UNT alum, performance artist, choreographer, educator, and arts leader based in Lenapehoking/Brooklyn, New York.

Since graduating from UNT, Maggie has built a multifaceted career that reminds us there is more than one path in dance. She has been performing professionally in NYC since 2015 and currently dances with KINESIS Project Dance Theater and Caitlin Adams Studio. She is also a resident artist and Director of Programming at Green Lung Studioin Red Hook, Brooklyn.

From 2018–2022, Maggie was a company artist with HEIDCO, serving as rehearsal director from 2020–2022. Her past artistic and performance collaborations include Brandon Welch, The Moving Architects, David Appel, Britta Joy Peterson, P.J. Verhoest, visual artist gwen charles, and more.

Her creative practice continues to expand beyond the stage. Maggie is a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, curator, arts administrator, and dance filmmaker. At Green Lung Studio, she helps create opportunities for artists to experiment, perform, and build community. She also curates the studio’s 4:15 Monthly Movement Series, which provides space for choreographers and movement artists to share new and developing work.

WHAT’S MAGGIE UP TO NOW?
Maggie is collaborating with filmmaker Steven Carmona on an ongoing series of short dance films exploring choreography, performance, the camera, and what it means to be seen.

We love seeing where our Dance@UNT alumni take their training-connecting, creating, leading, and transforming in ways uniquely their own.
